Hi all, any advice appreciated - at present I am living in Motor City the apartments are large and if I want I can walk down to the strip of shops and either have coffee, eat out or do a shop at Spinneys. However ...... as a single person I find Motor City quite boring, a little far out and more family orientated. I am thinking about moving when my contract runs out however my accomodation allowance is absolutely rubbish 50,000 dirhams - is there any likelihood that I could get a studio flat or small flat in Barsha or Tecom for this or a little bit more?? (that I would add on) Or am I just wishful thinking?
I shouldn't really complain as to be fair the actual apartments in Motor City are great but I would prefer to live in a box and be more central.

To be fair, you'd be probably better with a flat share with similar minded girls in JBR etc. (Even though i'm no fan of jbr).

Have you not considered Discovery Gardens? Handy for Ibn Battuta Mall and its cinemas/restaurants and as cheap as chips. Spugsy can tell you more.

Disco gardens is OK if you work a JAFZ, if not it's a nightmare as it's miles from anywhere so not exactly in the thick of it as the OP requires. Also traffic getting in and out aint pleasant.
As per the OP, I would say 'yes' there are places in and around the Barsha / Greens area for around 50K if you look. Shouldn't be that difficult either.

You should be able to get a 1 bed in Tecom to 50k. We lived there for a year and loved it. It was great having the metro close by and you can walk to the Biblos and the Rotana which boh have nice-ish bars and restaurants.
Tecom is a good option for a single person.

Thanks everybody! Kix - good idea but I've done enough sharing over the years - those days are a dark and hopefully distant memory! Scamp - yup, I can top up allowance myself but don't want to use too much of my own wonga! Layla thanks will look into Tecom. If not it's Spinneys, Cedar Tree and the Autodrome for another year - rockin!
