..with the Gulf Stream Drift we can grow palm trees outside (e.g., Summer Isles in the Hebrides)...so can't be that cold !

Well it's not like they are on motorcycles is it? What else are you supposed to call those human powered bi-cycle contraptions? Is the American "pushbike" (actually a very accurate description up steep hills though) any more dignified?
