Yes - a quick scan of the first edition shows the "launch" message to be the "retention of cultural values"......
Shame, I was kinda hoping they would be aiming to be the print version of Al Jazeera....

They were trying to discuss this on the Dubai Eye Business breakfast this morning. Unfortunately they couldn't find a copy and although they had a look online they didn't even know if it was a tabloid or broadsheet.
Oddly, they then described it as being like The Guardian. That can't be right though as I have had a quick look and didn't see tons of spelling mistakes or letters from social workers.

The guardian is great, well the football section online anyway.

Indeed it does look like the Guardian - size and format, but no job ads for Nappy Co-ordinators. I'm reserving judgement on content until things settle and locally based reporters get to know the turf. Reasonable international coverage - many respected journalists/contrubutors from around the world. But suffering distribution issues here, you won't be surprised to hear.

A copy was delivered to my door this morning. No idea from who/where though as I didn't request it.

Re: Abu Dhabi Torygraph....
It was extremely "cautious" in its approach - they covered the Abu Dhabi GP, Al Freej, MASDAR project - ie a whole lot of PR for Abu Dhabi...(what will they have left to write about today???) - plus a couple of comment articles about liberalising women in the workforce whilst retaining their traditional culture...
Let's see how things develop - yes, they have spent a lot of money on bringing in journos (mainly from the UK) - but a couple of these are ex Daily Mail??????

Wasn't yesterday's the first one?
I haven't read it yet (got the Times), but there is a very nice photo of an Oryx on the front page. If nothing else it will fit the cat's tray and appears absorbant.

Had a brief read of today's edition online - nice to see that they are doing articles about the Oryx, the road-side market on the way to Fujeirah & the UAE's history as a gateway to India. The opinions column is critical of illiteracy (25%!!!) rates & the state of tertiary education.... But overall it's a bit dry and not particularly incisive - and still doing a lot of flag waving.
