100% agree that uniforms are essential. This was just the odd non-uniform thing for charity etc.
We used to get spot-checked on the school gates some mornings for the following;
White / Blue shirt, done up all the way.
Tie, tied properly, appropriate length
Black / grey trousers
Smart shoes, polished,
School Blazer, no jumpers (unless school issue) underneath
Smart overcoat if needed
Inside blazer pockets - School Diary and school Hymn Book.
If you were missing any, you got detention.
