Re: 70% Pay Rise For....
I wonder does that count as a form of "quantative easing????"
Maybe the UAE government should consider giving all the expats a pay hike, too, so you all can spend your way out of the Dubai slump.....

Re: 70% Pay Rise For....
no no you've got it all wrong. Its not a pay rise its an allowance worth 70% of salary paid monthly, this is seperate to and on top of the 70% pay rise given last year and on top of the 30% pay rise given the year before.
so if you were earning say 30,000 aed a month in 2006
that became 40,000aed in 2007
increased to 68,000 in 2008
and now with your allowance thats a paltry 115,600 aed per month for 2009. How ever will they manage, i mean with no almost no electricity and water bills to pay, preferential bank interest rates, free housing etc that leaves almost no money for whores and forgein trips at all.
Poor bastards no wonder the place is ****ed.
oh and remember 30,000 aed was a fairly junior level role in 2006, a mid level manager say mid 30's ish at dubai municipality was on around 100k aed monthly two years ago!

Re: 70% Pay Rise For....
how many emiratis have you seen from dubai municipality that clean streets water parks etc???? that would be none, they are all office based, even the lowest paid is still doing ok, its why the private sector struggles to compete and you get fresh grads demanding 30k plus package straight out of college for the most basic of roles. Their reasoning is if you cant or wont pay that i'll sod of and work for the government.

Eva, im not saying nationals shouldnt be well looked after, but i do see a correlation between ridiculous salaries, poor working practises and an increasing detachment from reality. NOT something that i believe is in the countries or its nationals best interests in the long run.
banter, which bit, the 30% of two years ago, the 70% of last year or the new 70% allowance??? if this recent 70%, it is still crap as the averaage salary has still doubled in two years, not sustainable, not sensible and definately a foolish move in a country so divided
