6 months travelling

Ok, if you where to spend 6-9 months travelling where would you go and in what order- starting from Dubai and ending in UK on a medium/low budget.

I've never back packed so wouldn't have a clue how long you need in a place.

Full 6 months in relative detail please!

Asia is dirt cheap. Spend a month in Thailand and another month in Vietnam, with visits to Laos and Cambodia.

Spend a month in India.

Return to Dubai as a refresher.

Go to Lebanon/Syria for two weeks.

Cross over to Turkey for a month.

Go to Croatia for a week.

Last stretch in Austria/Switzerland or France.

Finish to UK.

Depends if you want to pack in a lot of countries and see it all, or just have a great time and see a bit of life far away at a more relaxed pace. Suggest you fly to Singapore then take low cost flights to wherever you fancy.

A few years I flew up to Chang Mai from Singapore one way and gradually made my way back down to Singapore by bus/boat/train/taxi/occassional flight through Thailand and Malaysia, staying for however long I fancied once I got to each place. The trip was 3 months all in and I had half my money left at the end! As OP mentions, Asia it is very cheap. If I had more time I would then have headed to Bali/Indonesia and Borneo/island Malaysia.

I'm in Vietnam now and very easy to live for $50 a day for your own hotel room every night, half that or less if you backpack.

If you have time, don't bother flying unless there's no alternative. Get yourself onto www.seat61.com and plan a route by rail... (and even if you don't want to go by rail, check out http://www.seat61.com/spreadsheet.htm for much usefulness).

Oz cheap??

Not if you take one of their internal flights, but ground-level travel isn't too bad.
