Default 6,000 bloody AED for the cat

That's how much it's costing me to ship him to the UK.

Furball has absolutely no concept of how lucky he is.

I could have easily dumped him in the middle of the desert.

But no, he showed his gratitude by clawing my knees when I stuffed him into the kitty carrier.

Oh well.

The upside is that I am now cat-free for a month

You big softie

Well done for having a heart and treating him properly. Shame that so many can't be bothered to take their pets home and just dump them on leaving.

I just recently spent 2000$ to find my cat when she went missing.Had to hire a pet detective but actually found cat from a person who called in after seeing my missing poster.

good on you these inflated prices are mental though, I brought my cat over from UK, in those days they went as cargo, on weight of box, it cost me 100 quid, and I used airmiles to pay so it effectively cost me nothing.

Good lad, we're fully expecting to pay that when we leave, although I'm more than happy to.

Which country are you going to?
did you have to have the rabies test done?
And does it have to go into a months quarantine here and then when you land?

Ta.

Back to the UK. My mum's picking him up at Heathrow and he' staying with them for a bit till I get settled down in London.

This is very important - the cat must be fully up to date with his/her rabies vaccinations. This would mean that a new rabies vaccination, followed by a blood test and waiting period of six months must be carried out here in the UAE.

I always kept my cat's vaccinations current on the off chance I would leave without much warning.

If the cat's shots are up to date then it does not have to go into quarantine. The UAE's one of the acceptable countries. http://www.defra.gov.uk/wildlife-pet...info/other.htm

You could have given us only Dhs2,500 and Miss Lionheart would have gladly provided him/her with a loving home...well at least for the first 3-4 weeks, until she got bored.

Since we moved from Bahrain we've kept the cats up-to-date with injections, the missus looks after it all but I think they have some sort of certificates to make it easy whenever we come to leave here.
When we were in Bahrain the cat place has some cats in there for the long-haul as the owners never thought about it (on a positive note, at least the owners were paying for them to be kept safe until they could fly).

How many poor rural Japanese fishermen would Dhs6,000 have helped to rehouse? Some people cannot seem to get their priorities right.

My adopted mog fell out of a tree (or was booted by an arab youth I like to hope it was the former) and was in a very bad way when we found him - couldn't put any weight on his hind leg.

Took him to the vet in AD where he had an op to sort his hip out and you could have knocked me down with a feather. Over a thousand quid I was initially quoted. Managed to chip him down to about 800 quid.

My tears of pain soon turned to tears of laughter though when the mog came home as he was half bald and had a lampshade on his head. The embarrasment!

He's right as rain now and very healthy and appreciative.
