Default 50 Shades of Cliched tripe

According to news reports the film is under review by the UAE censors.

Place your bets as to how long the film will be if they do release it here...

*I managed half of the first book before binning it as it's a crap story, badly written and just plain awful.

You never know by the time they cut 97% of the movie it may be watchable.

My wife read the first couple of chapters and declared it shite...written for people with no imagination. She's a wonderful woman.
I would like to see the Saudia airlines edit....title and credits would be your lot.

I have been seeing posts from hippy friends on facebook about something called Self Love Day as an alternative to Valentine's Day for singles. The actual intention is unclear...

I tried the book but it is very badly written. I gave up at the first sex scene which was excruciatingly boring. I cannot understand the hype.

And this isn’t really a film. Film is art. Art exists for a reason. It speaks to us. It communicates a truth. Art is beautiful, moving, real.

This is a business decision. It’s about as artistic as the end cap display at the grocery store. It’s a marketing gimmick. It exists to be consumed, and for no other reason. It’s the opposite of art - it’s a complete inversion. It is to art what a black hole is to the sun.

Nobody responsible for this movie ever at any point said to themselves, “Geez, now this is a story that really needs to be told.” It doesn’t need to be told and it isn’t a story. It’s loveless sex and degradation. No narrative, no message, no redemption. If that’s all you want, you’ll find plenty of it on porn clip sites or at the strip club down the street.
Christ.

You can't watch many films with those expectations.

Not going to be shown in the UAE, what a shame.

Am I the only one who looked at the cover, understood what the content might be from the precis and thought a big fat no.

It titillated some of the elderly ladies of the village though . <false shock> Maybe it was aimed at that age group.

It was written to cash in on the teen frenzy that came out of the "Twilight" books. It originally was fan-fiction of the "Twilight" stories turned into a book to titilate those same teens who are a little older now.

My daughter read the "twilight" books at 16 and was so enamoured with them, then at 20, read the 50 shades of dreary. I could quite clearly see it was soft core porn for that set.

It just drives me nuts that such tripe actually gets some sort of validation in becoming a printed book, then a movie. It used to be that only quality stories were made into film - not anymore, it's just a shameless grab for money these days.

Cashing in the mindlessness of the internet generation and bored housewives.

I never read the books, the women I knew that all raved about were bored bogan housewives, reading shitty fiction on cruise ships so that they actually could be bothered sleeping with their husbands between botox injections. I will not be seeing the movie either.
