2012 Apocalypse
You should all be reading the various scientific articles (several from Nasa) predicting that extreme solar storms will cause major disruption to everything, probably in 2012. It is likely that all electronic devices (so that's pretty much everything other than your stapler and biro) will be frazzled--there are some ways you can protect small objects like your mobile, but the networks will be frazzled too so there's not really a solution.
My family and I are stocking up on essentials--for every big bottle of water we buy, we get a spare and stick it in the store room: up to about 20 so far. Also tinned food. Condoms seem like a good idea, too, since the power will be out so no TV or beer deliveries (petrol stations will be stuffed, as will vehicles anyway because of their electonic components). I've been stealthily engaged in seeking safety for my family and myself, and have a significant share in a development in America. As part of that share I'm entitled to sell spaces to 12 people. Such is the demand that I already have a waiting list, which I've decided to limit to 100 spaces; so far 63 spaces have been taken. If you'd like to apply for one of the remaining 37 spaces, PM me and I'll send full details. Spaces on the waiting list are priced at USD 10,000, and when all 100 spaces are taken I shall organise an audited random draw, selecting the 12 successful people. The price of buying a place on the waiting list is not refundable. Further details can be found here: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...rn-bunker.html |
Re: 2012 Apocalypse
well, they're cutting it a bit fine if it's only going to be completed in Sept 2012... I mean, let's just hope the apocalypse happens in the last quarter!

Re: 2012 Apocalypse
Wouldn't that just be typical. I could achieve my life's ambition and become a best-selling author just as the world ****ing ends. FFS.

Re: 2012 Apocalypse
We're doomed, doomed...
The good news is that Nasa have said we are no longer as threatened by dangerous asteroids as they originally predicted http://www.space.com/13130-dangerous...e-results.html BTW: Is only the porn industry taking this seriously? |
Re: 2012 Apocalypse
Solar flares happen regularly, the SOHO telescope warns of their arrival and national grid companies simply turn down the wick to protect the electricity supply.
Even if there was a mass coronal ejection it would have to fire at us to hit us. It could just as easily fire in the opposite direction or along the axis of rotation (which is unlikely due to the rotational forces which cause solar flares.) Also what time is strikes will make a difference, if it is night where you are the ejected plasma won't impact that side of the planet. In conclusion, don't panic just yet. |

OH MY GOD, WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE!

A "mass coronal ejection"
I don't know what that is but it made me vaguely aroused. I worked with someone who really believed the world was going to end and lectured us pretty much weekly. it was like - well that Fahd guy who keeps banging on about how great Saudi is - delusional and unhinged. Funnily enough, I'm possibly heading to an area in France which is allegedly an alien garage and where you can be saved when it's all over in December next year. Thankfully if i do go, i'll only be there until march thus skipping all the White robed nutters communing with little green men. |

Re: 2012 Apocalypse
I thought you might like 'mass coronal ejection'. The only other thing you need to know is that an MCE spews plasma out into space.

Re: 2012 Apocalypse
The mechanisms that cause solar flares are cyclical. They peak every 11 years. There are other cycles that increase these intensities over longer periods but any flares should not be remarkably bigger than the last set.
I wrote a paper on this and there's even a link between solar cycle and human war activity! Doubt it's cause and effect though. |
