A motorist who was speeding at more than 200kph in Dubai was stopped by a police patrol and then allowed to go on her way because her mum was ill.

Dubai Traffic Police head General Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen said his patrols spotted the woman’s vehicle speeding on Al Khawaneej Road.

“The motorist was driving in a reckless and dangerous way. She was passing cars by overtaking them in different lanes and on the hard shoulder. The motorist was slowing down near the radars and then speeding up again,” Al Zafeen said.

Police patrols then stopped the vehicle and spoke to the woman, who was from a Gulf country.

“She admitted that she was speeding while talking on her mobile phone. She claimed that her mother was sick at home and she wanted to reach her to take her to hospital,” he added. She claimed there was no one in the house to take her mother. Police patrols allowed her to go and ordered her to return to the police station the next day where she was issued with penalties.


So it didn't really matter who was endangered by this reckless driving and, of course, 999 doesn't work, no ambulance will come to the house and provide medical care. I thought that the police were attempting to reduce deaths by dangerous driving/speeding. Looks like I was wrong.
