2 years here, wifey struggling to make real solid (girl)friends
Hi all - Just joined the forum today.
Just coming to the end of my 2nd year in Dubai and whilst I have enjoyed the experience for the most part so far, the same can't be said for my wife.
I was lucky in that I was dropped instantly into a circle of people through my work when we arrived (through my job that brought us here), but sadly my wife has struggled in finding a solid reliable job and therefore to build friendships with more than a handful of people.
Understandably she doesn't want all our socialising to be done with people from my work (which invariably have an element of 'talking shop'). We have some lovely neighbours and live in a great community, but all the girls have kids (& we don't), so nights out for my wife where she enjoys letting her hair down and partying generally end early (shooting home for baby) with lots of baby talk in between.
I'm just wondering, just like there are "mum" groups, whether there are forums/sites for childless women that aren't full of pervs on the 'lookout'?
I don't want her to stay here feeling miserable and I fear my other half not being able to have downtime to let her hair down socially will end up with her moving back to the uk while I see out my contract here.
Would be interested if its a common thing for the girls/ladies without kids to feel so isolated out here...? And if so, how they've overcome that.
Thanks folks,
S

There's the expat woman forum, but they're usually hateful catty women.

Tell your wife to look at Meetup.com. Scores of groups on there including for singles or childless couples of all ages. It's a great way to meet people, especially if it's tied to a common activity she enjoys.

women are way to much drama out here.....I only have 2 women friends out here....the rest of my friends are all blokes....and I personally prefer it like that....guy friends are easy going, tell it how it is, no bullsh*t and no biatchy drama.
but yeah I agree with the others, try meetup....I actually met one of my female friends from meetup.

Dubai is non-stop drama at every turn. It's like being at school again sometimes.

I would suggest finding a job being the main requirement. Without kids, nappies and mum talk to fill the day, it'll be shit boring. Especially as the only people not working will be those with kids, nappies and mum talk.
