2 more revenue earners for Dubai. One of the two new Salik gates will be installed near Al Mamzar Bridge on Al Ittihad Road—the busiest highway between Dubai and Sharjah while the second Salik gate is being installed on Airport Tunnel on Beirut Roads towards Twar side of Deira.
Thank goodness nothing on the Emirates or Al Khail. Yet.

This is interesting:

Studies have proven that Salik has succeeded in slashing the trip time on the Shaikh Zayed Road by as much as 44%.

Salik has also succeeded in easing bottlenecks in Al Garhoud and Al Maktoum Bridges, thus the time needed to cross these bridges dropped from 20 minutes in 2007 to less than one minute at present.

So....... the RTA seems happy that fewer cars now use SZR. Bizarre - surely any road charging scheme should encourage the use of the main thoroughfares while keeping the quieter/narrower roads (which are often residential) relatively traffic-free? SZR should be busy while, say, Al Wasl should be relatively quiet - surely?

Rather stupidly the RTA claims this reduces traffic. Unless Salik makes cars disappear that's impossible. All it does is distribute it differently.

Every evening much of Al Wasl is at a standstill because of Salik dodgers. Damed annoying.

I recall many years back working basically at the arport, living in Al Safa, the morning commute used to take me 45 minutes plus, the queue for the bridge used to start way before Wafi.

Once Salik started it was a 10 minute trip and no hold ups.

For 3Dhs? No brainer for me.

I recall in 2006/2007 Garhoud bridge had 2 lanes in each direction. There was no business bay bridge and it was a nightmare.

Now there are 2 bridges (and about 6 lanes on each bridge in each direction).

IMO this has a lot more to do with commute times than Salik.
