Re: "The 100 Greatest Guitarists Of All Time"
Gilmour is/was Pink Floyd's guitarist. And utterly brilliant. Waters couldn't tie Gilmour's shoelaces - why would you include him (and yes, "more of" a bassist)? I don't accept the general criticism of Americans' lack of appreciation of music (they invented most of it) but more of that another time.

Re: "The 100 Greatest Guitarists Of All Time"
Can I recant my Waters and say I actually meant Gilmour. Their reclusiveness always meant I got them mixed up. Some of Gilmours experiments with synths in early 70's was way ahead of their time.
The Dean, will you only be posting 1 song at a time? or would you like a hand to populate the thread?

I'm planning on three per day........... that will take about a month........ but since everyone has already gone online to see the list, there's no need to build up the "tension" - go ahead but keep it in reverse order, and if you're adding a You Tube video, it MUST be a live performance........ 97 next........

Hero to Zero: Springsteen's drummer Max Weinberg resurfaced many years later as the leader of the Max Weinberg 7, who were the house band on Conan O'Brien's chat show..........

95: Roger McGuinn of The Byrds........... go to 6:25 (Bells of Rhymney) - he suddenly decides to start playing a completely different song...... you can stop smoking that stuff now, Roger...... nice audience too..........

Here we go again................
93: Paul Simon........ a tricky one, as many of the guitar bits associated with his music were played by someone else........... so back to Kathy's Song we go........ quality not great, but good enough to hear his work.
[Art Garfunkel: "still Paul Simon's most beautiful love song"]

92: the first one in the list I hadn't heard of......... the late Dimebag Darrell of Pantera, shot by a fan on the anniversary of the shooting of John Lennon. This is one that Rolling Stone recommends... your views are as valid as mine.......... go straight to 3:30 for the best bit.....

91: Dave Davies of The Kinks........ you can't see his solo because the director and cameraman were following the 1960s tradition of showing the audience during instrumental bits, presumably because they weren't as important......

90: Television's Tom Verlaine, although those who know far more about guitar playing than I do often say it was the combination of him and Richard Lloyd that gave them their distinctive sound.......

87: Metallica's James Hetfield............ "palm-muted, ultra-percussive chug"..... quite. He sings too.............
