1/2 a kilo of eggs, please...

EU wants us to buy eggs and bread rolls by weight, not number. OK, this is The Sun, but presumably there's some truth behind it. They can't be serious, can they?

...so it's no longer six or half-a-dozen then. By weight doesn't make sense...even recipes don't do eggs by weight

Not exactly - I often use recipes that say "Two large eggs" or whatever......

The Eurification of Britain is disgraceful and depressing - and if you really fancy having your blood involuntarily boiled, try Googling "Steve Thoburn", "Metric Martyrs" and "Sunderland Council".

They drove that poor man to his grave, I haven't the slightest doubt.

Oops..I forgot size does matter :)

I hadn't heard of "Steve Thoburn"...makes for sad reading.

I remember as a kid going to the grocery for my mum to get a "fourpit" of potatoes, which is a quarter of a stone north of the border. As long as its weighed...doesn't really matter if its BI or metric in the end.

PS Despite metric system I still stick with feet and inches for my height. I suppose today's kids think in metric.

So it means the advantage of getting healthy dozens of egg against the unhealthy ones is going to end? :o

what a load of sensationalist twaddle... If The Sun were a person, I'd want to give him a good slap for wasting our time.

Even in France you still buy "une demi-douzaine" (half-dozen - literally), "douzaine" and even a "quinzaine", which is a very handy, if completely random "a fifteen"... and which you already find in some UK supermarkets.
