We applied for an Aliens Land Holding Licence 10 years ago but don't know if it was ever accepted ...our plans for going there sooner went wrong so we have only just picked up the thread again. Any advise you could give would be much appreciated. Thanks
Hi, I don't think your son would be entightled to any tax exemption as he has been residing in St Lucia over the last 10 year period. If you applied for an alien land holders license you would recieve the paperwork when it is granted.
You will have to check with land registry who the land is registered to. When the land was bought on completion of the sale you will have recieved the title deeds stating cleary who bought the land and also who you bought it from. If your son is in St Lucia he can check this for you. If you have a right to St Lucian citizenship and have lived out of the country for 10 years you get an import of household goods tax exemption as a returning national. If your son is in St Lucia, let him check the current situation with customs.

Good luck.

I am a British Citizen in love with St Lucia. I visit whenever I can and love taking a rental car and exploring the island, not to mention sampling restaurants and bars in Rodney Bay and lounging in the hot sun etc etc.

I have recently undergone a lot of changes in my life and am looking to take a break from my day to day life for a few months. And I figure that seeing as I know and love St Lucia it would be a good place to start looking for the break I need.

I can't seem to find anything on here about gaining temporary work permits for non-St Lucian's. Is there such a thing? I don't have any particular skill and would be looking to do bar work or hotel work, kind of front of house or meet and greet type thing. Does anyone know if this would be possible?
And if so how I should go about it?

I was thinking maybe 3 or 4 months, getting accommodation with the job etc etc.

Any advice anyone could give me would be most appreciated.

Many thanks
Sophie
Hi Sophie,

I moved to SL two years ago from UK. To get a work permit in SL you have to have the job first. The permit will cover you usually per year but if it is a temporary job the permit will stipulate that. You really have to be here to get employment, its rarely done over the internet. Hope that helps and get in touch if you need any more info.

Hello,

First nice to meet you all, I ll be moving to Saint Lucia in december, working for the French embassy.

I could not find any French expats forum so here I am :-)

My question is simple: what do you have to do to get a job in Saint Lucia? Are there many? My fiancé would love to come with me but we cant find any job offers.

Moreover I guess it is harder for non-native english speaker to find a job there even though his english is fluent. He is currently working in real estate, previously worked as a chief.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I am looking to meet you all in December!!

Hi Lucille, welcome to the forum.
You will find very littles job advertised on line. Jobs are generally word of mouth or advertised locally. In fact there is a shortage of jobs on the island, and a lot of jobs are reserved for locals because of this reason.
having said that it does not mean he would not get a job. He would have to get a work permit, which unless he has some specific skills which are not available on the island may be hard to come by.
Sorry I can't be of much help but that is the reality right now.

Lucille, you really just need to get across to St lucia and make the contacts.
Saint Lucia is over saturated with real estate people right now, but there is expats working in real estate. Usually the ones who have set up their own companies. Why not try the new casino. See what skills they will be requiring and if there is any scope there. is there maybe a unique business he could set up ?

They took 2 safes that we didn't get round to installing but we had already set the security codes so they were worthless to them as they couldn't open them & the keys were locked inside. That cheered me up no end.

They took bedding, towels etc. but even if they had left it, I would have thrown it out anyway. However, I do know my clothes very well & heaven help anyone I see wearing them!!! I must admit, the last time we were over, I was looking at everyone closely, just in case I spotted any of my clothes....

We looked a security systems when we were there in May but could not decide what system we wanted. We now have the burglar bars up all the windows, something we already paid a guy to do in Dec & although he made them straight away, we could never pin him down to install them. He gave us one excuse after another & consequently, we got burgled. We learnt the hard way, never pay anyone in advance, wait until they've done the job.

Whereabouts in the island are you?

Cheers
Chris
Isn't that a bit like living in a prison?
A better life? worse than England I'd say?

You will just need two forms of ID, like drivers license with photo and your passport and maybe a proof of address. Pretty straight forward.

Why does everyone go to the north of the island...the south has a lot to offer especially around the Laborie area where the real St Lucia still exists.

It is beautiful down there but for a tourist on a 10 day / two week break there really isn't a great deal to do there. No night life and very few restaurants.

Everybody goes to the north for several reasons:

The area around Rodney Bay is tourist and expatland and is properly supported by the police force. It is now almost self-contained with its own supermarkets, doctors, dentists, hardware stores, schools, travel agents. Properties in Rodney Bay are more liquid than anywhere else and easier to find. There is golf, tennis easy access to the beach and a major marina. There are numerous restaurants. The folks in the south only really speak patois and one can feel very isolated - believe me, beautiful though it is. Access to the sea is not so easy elsewhere and it's best to keep ON THE beaten track in St Lucia as going to beaches in the south on your own can sometimes be dangerous.
