Moving to St Lucia
 

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone can advise me.
I'm moving to St Lucia next year, I am marrying a local.
I have just sold my house in the UK and can not decide what to do with my household contents and car.
I am being quoted around £4000 for the transport of my contents. Basic household items, no large furniture items except my 3 & 2 Seater sofa.
Is it worth the cost or can I replace the items for less in St Lucia??

Cars are generally expensive in the Caribbean as they have to be exported. Best bring a reliable Japanese car which they can service easily and have readily available parts for. Suzuki, Nissan, Toyota etc. Depending on where you are going to live a 4x4 may be a better option but generally the roads are not too bad.

Looks from this post as though one should get married first and then get the duty-free concession on a car, which can be imported or bought locally.

BTW, since I am planning to leave St Lucia next year, I have been in touch with Customs about the duty free clearance so that there are no issues regarding that on sale onwards and they were clearly not aware that a spouse of a St Lucian counts as a Returning National, nor are Nissan (Peter & Company Ltd.) for that matter :rolleyes:.
