How negotiable are rental prices?

Hello all, this forum has been really useful in the past, so first off thanks to everyone who answered my other questions.

So, after reading up on the real estate market in St. Lucia, I was wondering just how negotiable prices are on long term rentals? Since it seems to be difficult to sell at the moment I would imagine it's a renters market. Then again, I have no idea how the real estate market in St. Lucia works, if they usually mark up asking price a lot or not. So, what might be a reasonable offer below asking be? 10%, 20%? Obviously it depends on the particular situation; I just don't want to get ripped of or offend anyone by going too low :)

Hi There,

I don't think you will offend anyone by making a lower offer, to be honest I had an apartment to rent long term, I rented it at EC$700 instead of my asking price of $800 and I was happy with that, go in at 20% and see what the person says.

Just thought I'd update this as I've just gone through a couple of negotiations. It seemed like people were willing to go down anywhere from 25-15%. It pays to shop around though, some real estate agents were offering very different prices on the same property!

Are they willing to take similar drops in the asking price of their properties they are selling ?

Which part of the island are you renting on and did you use an agent ? If so how did you find their service ?
