It's certainly been very trusting of Poland to have left it with the Bank of England in the thirty years since its departure from the Soviet Empire. I can understand Britain probably not allowing the gold to be repatriated before that departure. And I have to say I'm mildly surprised that it was available to Poland now. One reads about the US government's gold in Fort Knox being absent (the inventory hasn't been audited for many decades - or even inspected by independent parties), having been allegedly lent out to traders. So if the Bank of England hasn't done that sort of thing, good for them!
