Worcester?

I'm not certain if this is the right part of the forum for this, but whatever.

Back-story: Since returning to the Uk in 2015 we've split our time about 50/50 between Newcastle and Normandy but, while we love our flat overlooking the Tyne in Newcastle (a perfect lock-up-and-leave) and while we love Newcastle, our prime reasons for being here have disappeared since my FIL died last year and my S&BILs moved away to Whitehaven and Mallorca (also 50/50) soon after.

We left Normandy on Monday and decided to dawdle our way back to Newcasle via Devon and Cornwall then on the way back north towards Whitehaven and then home, a day/night in Worcester.

We were very pleased with and attracted to Worcester.

Access to Normany from there would be less problematic than from Newcastle. Does anyone have +/- comments on Worcester?

Nice area.
Do you particularly want to be in a city?
If not, you could have a look at Malvern. That's where my ex FIL lived, quality of life seems very good there.

I looked at places in Malvern but it wasn't for me as I felt the population was heavily skewed to an older demographic. I was disappointed because it really is a beautiful area.

I like Worcester too, but make sure you don't end up in a location that's flood prone.

Thanks both... I'd almost forgotten this thread. Yes, ET we'd prefer to be in a city in the UK, although a (very) small town is our choice in France.

I'll look at Malvern though, thanks for the tip.

Certainly was the case, but last time I was there I was struck by the fact there seemed to have been a sudden rash of trendy apartment developments and modern housing that would surely be targeting the younger generation. What effect if any this has/is/will have on the place's character, I don't know.
