Winter's here :)
3 Attachment(s)
Quite cold on the weekend -5c:blink: I lasted 45kms on the bike until I called it quits Saturday morning. The two canal pics were taken Sunday, the kayakers were breaking the ice.
The snow one was taken about an hour ago from my balcony and you can't quite see it but there is a narrow boat in that picture. He ain't going anywhere in a hurry! We have it pretty easy in Surrey, other parts of the country are way worse. 'enjoy' |

No snow yet on the Devon coast, which is fine by me! 20 years in the icier parts of Canada cured me of the romance of the white stuff.
Here's our back garden today. It looks as if the UK is settled back into long cold winters such as we had in the '60s and '70s. Does this affect anyone's plans to return, or where to return to if you have the choice? Bev |
Re: Winter's here :)
Poor Mrs Tr1boy looks frozen

Re: Winter's here :)
Not seen much snow here in London either. The real problem has been the biting wind. It really has been unpleasant walking in such cold conditions. I'm hoping the winds ease off soon, even if that means the nights get even colder

Brits, are you saying you can't get your pics off your camera? You'll need a cable from the camera to a USB port on your computer (that should have come with it, I think) or a thing that holds the memory card from in the camera. You plug that into the USB port. In either case, you just move the pics onto your computer. Or you can download them here directly. You have to go to the "manage attachments" box below. That's the secret that isn't obvious! Bev |

I just press the attach paper clip icon and load from my pc, but I only usually do one pic as mine are mega pixels. |

Personally I do yes to a great degree ( I hope you mean emotionally lighter, as I've piled on 10lbs since my Ironman race:o), but knowing how Mrs TB feels is weighing heavy on me. :(
Ah that's not good about Mrs TB :( I wonder if she has "that" feeling that we have not living in the UK? Does she prefer Australia or Korea? If she wants to move back to her home would you go? |

Any snow in Devon yet Bev? Seems to be the whole country is white and clean, it looks gorgeous. :D
It's fine by me. I think it's odd how little mention there is of the areas without the snow and bitter cold. As if no one wants to know! There may be snow on the higher ground, though. Bev |

I agree, it's as if we are supposed to think the whole country is gripped in an Ice Age.............which I did.
The great British media once again painting a grim picture of Broken Britain? http://www.newscientist.com/blogs/sh...wed-under.html There have been reports of people freezing to death in their garden ( a couple in Cumbria, where you would have thought they'd know how to adapt to cold spells), and transport disruption galore (Edinburgh and Gatwick airports were shut, train services cancelled etc). Luckily it appears to be moderating in a lot of areas, but apparently Scotland is still hard hit: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-11919767 Probably best to keep an eye on the BBC website if you are travelling to the UK |

She definitely prefers Oz to Korea but we have spoken about doing a spell in Korea, not long term though, maybe a couple of years. But Sydney is where she wants to be long term.

Re: Winter's here :)
The cold blast from the North is expected to hit the UK again overnight, and the cold spell is predicted to last several weeks. Wrap up well if you're travelling to the UK:thumbup:

reading some posts on this site make me wonder how Northern Europe, most of America, Canada and Asia and many other countries managed to survive for so long:rolleyes: |

Re: Winter's here :)
Well I for one, can't wait for my last hot Christmas to be over, I am looking forward to cold proper Christmases.
Mind you don't fancy the aching tootsies though. :( |
Re: Winter's here :)
When referring to cold us cyclists have a saying.
"There's no such thing as the wrong weather, just the wrong clothes".:D Talking about a white Xmas here. I have a race on Boxing Day which I don't mind missing, but definitely want to make our flight to Vienna on Dec 30th. So, in summary, big dump of snow Xmas Eve and gone by 7am Boxing Day will just right, thanks. |

But I am sure somebody will be along to tell me I am wrong and they love the long hot Aussie summers.......horses for courses I say. |

Well you know I have been off work today with the flu, spent most of my time on Flickr uploading pics and there are LOADS I looked at in October through to March this year and I can honestly say that I am more uncomfortable with the heat in Australia than I am with the cold in the UK.

Horses for courses, absolutely. I do not like it above 35 and I certainly couldn't live in QLD, the humidity would kill me.
Actually I am just editing this here, I do FEEL more alive and invigorated and stimulated mentally in the cold of the UK than I do here in Australia.........I don't think this is a mental thing I do believe it is truly physical...........some of us adapt better to colder or hotter climes than others........ |

I agree that I'll take cold over extreme heat, but if it was extreme of both, I don't know. I've done -25 with a wind chill that makes it feel like -40, and that's not liveable either in any reasonable way. Temperate is good. Very good, IMO. Max 22 in the summer, min 0 in the winter. Bev |

I can't wait to get back and feel that buzz of Xmas. It may be me, but i feel that here that there are all the xmas lights up and Santas floating about in malls, but there is no realness to it all - a bit fake (that might be a little strong). Can't put my finger on it, i just don't feel festive and excited like i used to. Tyring to put up a good front for the kids, but to me its naff! |

Re: Winter's here :)
If I see it today, I can probably get a pic of a robin in the snow. Yes, we finally have a significant amount. Only an inch or two, though, and the sun's shining. Quite pretty, given that we're all stocked up and don't have to go anywhere!
