Certainly not the same level of ethnic strife as seems to be going on in Sydney at the moment. I don't think ther are many 'Lebs or Wogs' in NZ though. Seems that getting pissed off about immigrants taking all "your" stuff is a luxury afforded to those who are not severely outnumbered by the immigrants. [You see, I did bring the post back on-topic!] BTW, what is a "Leb"? |

Actually, it seems there is a growing backlash against 'The Holidays' http://abcnews.go.com/WNT/Beliefs/story?id=1383107 with many more people wanting to know what on earth is wrong with saying Merry Christmas. I seriously doubt anyone would be offended if someone said to them Happy Hannukah or Kwanzaa, I know I wouldn't. I would imagine most people of other religions who live in a predominately Christian country would not be offended by Christmas. IMO, it's only a small percentage of groups who are getting their knickers in a twist about avoiding offending anyone, and ironically they are Christians. |

So, OP, first up there's the story in today's Queensland Mail about the teacher who has apologised for offending his pupils for his over-use of the word 'Christmas', following complaints. Then there's the story from last week's paper about the leading Islamic cleric who has called for Australia to end its use of the word 'Christmas' so as not to offend the high-number of non-Christians in the country. Last year it was all about cancelled nativity plays at schools and kindies. It may not yet be at the extent of that in the UK or US, but evidently, the sentiment is there, and many are unsure how to deal with it. http://www.news.com.au/story/0,10117...1-1248,00.html G |

How about you put your husbands calculations on this thread for me to have a look at rather than just saying that I am wrong. |

Try buying a Christmas card with the word Christmas anywhere on it...you can't, it doesn't exist. I recieved a card from my mailman last week, it said Happy Holidays on the envelope. The card had a picture of Mary holding a baby Jesus, but the wording inside said something like "Season's Greeting during the Holidays" So even with a religious picture on the card, Christmas is still unmentionable  You can't even say Merry Christmas to someone here, for fear of causing offense....it has to be Happy Holidays  The kids have Holiday parties and Holiday cookies etc. Just substitute Holidays for whenever you would normally say Christmas. |
