West Sussex

Hi all

We will be in England in the next month and moving to West Sussex. Please could you advise which are the nicest and safest areas to stay. We have a 3 year old toddler as well. Thanks

Re: West Sussex

generally it's the places that cost the most to live, like Chichester

I don't think there is anywhere is W.Sussex that is dangerous to live in!

The prettiest place is Arundel, if you are wealthy.

Living close to Beachy Head could be a temptation to go too near to the edge ...

Beachy Head is in East Sussex, not West Sussex.

Come to think of it, Balcombe should probably be avoided pro tem. The OP isn't in the oil and gas industry by any chance?

I never can understand that border. Some parts of East Sussex seem way further west than some parts of West Sussex. I'll have to look at the map again!

OK .. Just looked at a map, obviously had a brain meltdown as I was confusing my east and west ...

What did Ardingly do wrong?:)

(I spent many young years there.)

Seconding your main point - West Sussex- dangerous? Is that a real question?

Only if you don't like sponge cake. Staple food of everyone there in my memory.

Also the haggling at some church jumble sales can get quite vicious, and home-made jam addiction is rife.

Dont know the area at all so not sure what places to avoid. What are the safest and have good schools?

Again safety. Do you think West Sussex is full of lager louts and crack-heads or what? What are you scared of?

West Sussex is quite a big area. It would help to know why West Sussex. If you are working there, and the job is in Crawley, there won't be much point in living in Bognor. If the job is in Worthing, then you could look at places to live in East Sussex such as Brighton.

Another major safety issue in areas like West Sussex is when they don't clip the hedges on some of the country lanes, and the roadway inexorably gets narrower and narrower. This can lead to scratching the paintwork on the car, sometimes needing a vigorous rub with turtle wax to restore pristine bodywork shine.

The real fun starts at the cake stalls. There has been many a duel fought over a prize fruit cake.
