Come and join me on my island fortress. Poipulation 6000 and only trouble is when the local crazies get p***ed and have a fight on the way home from the pub.

Re: Walking on your own... safety issues?
I don't know if anyone can remember the case of the beautiful 25 year old estate agent, Suzy Lamplugh? She was showing a 'client' around a property in London in the mid-80s and was never seen again, almost certainly murdered and declared dead in 1993. Her killer or abductor has never been found.
Her distraught mother set up a Trust in her daughter's name, to raise awareness of personal safety. The Trust sells a range of personal attack alarms, door and travel alarms - eg. see the link here: http://shop.suzylamplugh.org/Alarms-...-/prod_41.html The website also gives tips on how to be aware when out and about and also at work and home: http://www.suzylamplugh.org/personal...l-safety-tips/ |

A story here about a woman murdered while out walking. :(
Is there a way she could have protected herself? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...-walk-sun.html |
Re: Walking on your own... safety issues?
The problem with stories like that is that they seem frightening because they are taken out of all context. People die getting out of the shower, but it doesn't mean we're all scared of having a shower.
I don't mean to be flippant, because this is a horrible tragedy - but it has to be set against the millions of walks taken in Britain each year with no one murdered. Instead, The Daily Mail loves to find the one-off event and then turn it into something that everyone should be scared of. As for protecting herself, since most murders are committed by someone known to the victim, it's very likely that's the case here. I don't suppose there's much she could do if someone wanted her dead. Awful. |
