UK economy

Re: UK economy
My goodness you certainly have a considerable regard for yourself. I am going to guess you have little experience of consensual or co-operative roles.
You will find that "liberal" in Europe generally is associated with the left, and has been for a number of years. In general, in my opinion, it carries a connotation of illiberal, a quality you seem to exemplify. What one regards oneself as was precisely my point, but as usual you hector and bluster onwards, without paying the slightest attention
If you can be bothered to read what I wrote rather than what you think I wrote, I make several of your points myself.
There really is little point in conversing with someone who cherrypicks and misrepresents as you do.

Re: UK economy
The UK national debt has continued to increase since 2010, and shall continue to increase while the budget is in deficit.
But if the rate of increase continues to decline, then we can envisage a time in the not too distant future when the debt too starts to be paid off.
However a political point being made by another poster was that "Labour would have said just borrow more and get us even more in debt". Whereas in reality, the Tories have been doing just that and getting the UK in more debt.

Re: UK economy
When I produce support, you challenge only those bits for which I do not produce evidence. (And accuse me of “wasting your afternoon”! Who on earth do you think you are? The Queen?)
The ONLY substantiation you produce for anything you say is a bit of cut and paste from a GCSE history course.
But you do not bluster.
Of course you probably have another definition for that word too.
I am not sure you will enjoy being back in England.

So YOU disagree with a poster on the flimsiest of evidence. When another poster (myself) supports that poster with evidence, you simply attack the post. You produce NO evidence for what you say.

You referred to four reports in which you claim the BBC owned up to having a left wing bias. I have asked you to link to them. You have ignored the request.
You have claimed that three BBC news journalists are left wing -- that Naughtie is a member of the Labour Party (which would put him in breach of his BBC contract) and that both Dimbleby brothers were members of the Young Socialists, which would be irrelevant if true, but you have produced not evidence that it is true.
You've now claimed, ludicrously, "that 'liberal' in Europe generally is associated with the left, and has been for a number of years".
Let's take France first. This is an article from the French Wikipedia discussing France's "liberalism of the right and liberalism of the left":http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lib%C3%...pr.C3.A8s_1958
Presumably you read French, so perhaps you'd like to explain to me why that article is totally wrong.
In Germany, on the other hand, liberalism in politics is most strongly associated with the FDP, which is a centre-right party:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_De...rty_of_Germany.
If you can find any description of the FDP as left-wing, please provide a link. I do read German.
Now, as far as I am concerned, that is the end of this discussion. I don't think it would be kind to you to continue it any longer.

YOU haven't produced any support at all.

Re: UK economy
I do agree, Editha, that it is time to move on from this discussion. There is another thread specifically for political discussions which, in my experience, never end with anyone convincing anyone else to change their views. Although the OP invited political comment, I’d be more interested in general information on how the economy is doing rather than who is to blame for it.

Re: UK economy
It's doing pretty well, depending on who you ask. Some good figures (increasing unemployment) mask the fact that many new jobs are casual, zero-hours type jobs. I think people at the bottom are struggling and anyone under 30 has given up hope on owning a house any time soon. But I'm all right, Jack. Sort of.
