Re: The Tyranny Of Dialysis
Someone put a spell on me and I had an attack of gout at 3 AM ! I am now wondering which poster here has "The Evil Eye" ! Still sufferinbg and waiting for the Pharmacy to mopen so I can get some Colchicine. Had I still been in KSA I could have gone to an all-night pharmacy and bought some over the counter for 2 Saudi Riyals !

No matter how far east or west of Greenwich you are located, gout takes into account the time zone difference and always strikes at 3AM local time.
I find putting my gouty foot into a cardboard box is necessary at the appointed hour, as the pressure of bedding covers on the inflamed big toe joint is too painful. Even a single cotton sheet is torturous.

An extremely belated happy birthday, Scot.
Sorry to hear about the gout. I thought it was something only port-swilling reprobates in Trollope novels got.
I hope you have at least had the fun of leading a life of intemperance and general debauchery.

Re: The Tyranny Of Dialysis
I have been teetotal for 30+ years. I ate something that had bad chemicals in it - or one of the local wicthes cast a spell on me. In any case a day of taking Colchicine freed me of this malady. Until the next time.
I first got gout in my 30s. just one of my ailments connected with my diabetes. i had coronary heart disease but open heart surgery (Quadruple by-pass) gave me a few more years after my operation in 2004 in Dhahran. The worst was kidney failure which has taken me to dialysis three mornings a week. Dialysis will be my lot for the rest of my days. The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away.
In countries where dialysis is not available, renal failure is a death sentence.
