Scottish Independence - what would you vote?
Well, 10 days to go and the polls are now officially "too close to count" (but the most recent YouGov poll indicates the Yes campaign are ahead 51% to 49% against the Better Together campaign (excluding the Undecideds).
Things really are hotting up here in Dreich Alba - so, if you could vote, what would you vote? I hve not incuded an "undecided" option - on the day, there will be no such option, so if you're not sure, vote when you've made your mind up!
You have until midnight on the 18th ...
(debate also invited - surprised not many people on this forum have much to say on the matter)
[If a mod could correct the typo in my title, it would be appreciated - have not yet had my coffee!]

It's killing the pound - good news for us personally at the moment!
Long-term I don't know what the implications for the UK would be. If we had a vote, I suppose I'd vote yes so the Scots would 'had their wheesht' or whatever they say. Where would independence leave people like you?

I think the vote will be a 'yes' vote.
I think those voting with their hearts will outnumber those voting with their heads - hot helped by the fact that it is all so unknown what will happen after an independent vote, that there is little for the 'head' voters to base a decision on.
I have a few Scottish based friends (mostly in the NE, Aberdeen etc) and a lot of their facebook pages are of the whole 'sons & daughters of Caledonia rise up and take your destiny' type of stuff. On the other hand, my brother in law is from Glasgow and his family are very firmly in the no camp.

I have said this in another thread, but I will be voting with my heart and that will be NO. My head also tells me no and the Yes campaign have not convinced me otherwise.
From my own perspective, if it is a Yes vote, then I look forward to living in Salmondtopia where all the moaning about Westminster will stop because everything will be perfect.

My husband and I were talking about this the other day. He had been reading an article suggesting that even if the vote is a no there could still be an impact on the markets and there is a risk of a kind of 'everendum' situation ie they have to keep asking the question again and again over the years causing more uncertainty.

I am not sure how it will affect me, but potentially it could affect me quite a lot in terms of what happens with pensions (state pension and personal pensions). Regarding state pensions, it is completely unclear how they would deal with people who have paid NI in both Scotland and the rest of the UK during their working lives. Where will they claim state pension from?

My mum was just telling me today that Salmond seems to think they can just miraculously keep the pound, and Osborne has said that isn't going to happen.
It does on its surface seem to be "you can have your cake and eat it". But where is the money coming from? is Scotland a hotbed of Industry? Can they be self sufficient? has the North Sea Oil issue been addressed, and on that note, do the North sea oilfields belong to the UK or Scotland? and they aren't going to last forever. Wouldn't it be similar to an Independent Wales?
I think the UK will be worse off, but Scotland specifically will be.
Isn't this as much about Salmond wanting to be Scotland's first Prime Minister?
Be careful what you wish for, there's no going back.

re: Scottish Independence - what would you vote?
That is where I started when I began thinking seriously about this, around 2 years ago. However, most right-minded Scots I have spoken to do not "wheesht" for independence. They simply want what most of the rest of us want (a better standard of living). Whereas most of the rest of the UK has accepted you can't have something for nothing, the Yes campaign seems to be promising everything (better NHS, higher wages, free childcare, free elder care, etc, etc. - but lower taxes!).

Pension will be a pressing issue for you.
