I am no doubt going to annoy a few people but no change there, I really dislike seeing this talk about prayers and God. Surely if such a being existed he/she wouldnt allow this sort of thing ? It's a bit late after the event to be praying. Sorry if this offends but it is the way I see it.

This is yet another tragic avoidable incident from a country seemingly hell bent on destroying itself, I am by no means anti American but the US tends to look down on the rest of the world while the world tends to look at American as a country gone totally mad.
I dont understand what possible purpose prayers serve after an incident like this ? Maybe belief in a higher force gives people hope or strength but at a time like this the last thing I would be looking toward is a god.
This isnt an attack on the OP, just something I feel very strongly about.

Don't want to seem insensitive but you state "avoidable". What magical powers are there to override two centuries of judicial rulings?. Like it or not this will be a debate 10 plus years from present.

Considering the nature of this tragedy I don't think there is any call for the smug insensitivity shown in some of these posts regardless of whether you believe in prayer. Have a heart for the families for goodness sake. If you don't feel like praying for the victims just shut up and dont use this as an opportunity for your own posturing.

I raised this issue with one of my Christian friends. Their answer was the devil is making these bad things happen and believing in god helps to counteract them. Obviously there aren't enough people believing so we had better get to church now.

All sounded rather convenient to me...

I just find it hard to fathom that in this day and age people can still believe this stuff. It's a shame the devil is more powerful than god. People can believe whatever they want and take comfort in whatever they want but to pray now seems futile after all the poor innocent kids and teachers are dead. I dont get it and never will.

I don't think God OR the Devil did it but that doesn't make me want to pour scorn. I'd rather spend my energy feeling compassion for the affected families.
