My oh just had a phone interview so we will see how it goes. We rent here and I am not impressed with how slack they have been compared to OZ ,but that's life I suppose.
Went to Mexbourgh and Rotherem recently my oh has family there. I don't like it but Denby is lovely. I am going to York and Harrogate for a weekend in March. I know what you mean about cleanliness it is grotty isn't it? I can't stand the litter it drives me mad. I do miss the space and I get fed up of the moaning here , they can be like a dog with an old bone it won't let go off!
York and Harrogate are lovely, you will have a great time. Its nice to go to these nice cities but I couldnt afford to have the house that I have if I lived there - if you know what I mean. We have a beautiful home in a lovely village, its just everything around it that lets it down!!!

I work in Bradford and it is a real eye opener. I was walking through the shopping centre on my lunch break and there are these horrible women screaming and shouting at their children, it makes me so sad. I hate the thought of my boys being around this, even though i dont live in Bradford, the town nearest to us isnt very clever either. There are some good people there though, I have grown up here all my life and the sad thing is everyone said that we should have stayed and tried harder.

My youngest is 5 and it worries me what the future will hold for him here.

Hand on heart I still think Australia is best for the children , even my oh agrees. I know what you mean about places close to you. I went to Nottingham city centre yesterday they have a wheel like the London Eye and I went to take some photos and to sit in the sun, the weather is beautiful. The market square is really nice in the city and very clean but I got really peed off by a family with 10 kids yes I did say ten , mind one or two could have belonged to the teenage daughter, they threw their litter on the floor, loud ,abnoxious and generally gross . Chav central sometimes.

I think homesickness is a horrible thing and can kick in well and truly in the first 6 months, problem with it is that you can get so negative about everything ,and things can get really black , it's that kind of pain that can send people back home very quickly. strange because I have felt like that about OZ but I am ok now I know I am going home.

we like many came back to the uk,then when back to oz for a second helping again came back as nothing had changed for us,things were exactly the same.only difference was house prices were alot more expensive.and again was alot harder to find a business.going back to your forum about mothers etc shouting there mouths off,you get that where ever you live,we lived in a beautiful suberb in perth, rossmoyne couldnt believe the amount of times that we would take our dog for a walk and on the pavement there would be lots of broken glass where young people had thrown there beer bottles out of the window of there car,and there was lots of graffetti cant spell that, but my point is yes oz is abetter place for children but where ever you live you will always face and come up against the same problems.oz and the uk are not perfect,

Agreed, I didn't live in Perth but it seems to have a bad reputation in some parts.I think these things are the same the world over. I frequent an Australian forum and you could just change the names of the places and you would think your in UK same concerns over youth behavior etc.

i totally agree with you,in some places you could be in not so nice places ,oz is a great place but for me found it little bit boring its not for everyone, i like the uk its got some great places, amazing how many put down the uk but there are lots of us boomberang pommes that do return and have no regrets, one thing i like about uk is the long summer evenings.its a shame that there is alot of people put this place down when they emmigrate.there is alot going for the uk same as oz,but you cannot always have it all,we met alot and i mean alot of pommes that would love to come back but for one cannot afford it or there children have settled and stay for the wrong reasons, shame life is too short have to do what is best for you, we gave it a real good go,took the dog back again, unsettled our son looking back i wish we hadnt as it has unsettled all of us,know we get itchy feet thats life like one big rollocoaster.

Thats the thing though, we came and it has unsettled me for the UK, I too love the long summer evenings with no areogaurd spray! I have met quite alot of people since I have been here that used to live in Australia and most of them Perth. I am not sure what that says but the people that i met here the word boring kept coming up. Itchy feet that what bothers me , I go back because all my family are there but will it just make me want to move again?

In uk now. First time to aus was culture shock, Came back. Second time only managed six months out there due to job failure and lack of money being out of work. Think we were just in the wrong place for work e,c,t. Us and our two older boys, now 17 and 19 loved it out there and didnt want to come back, but now our eldest son has got a girlfriend and is convincing him not to go, so he is changing his mind from week to week.
We are now trying for the third time, which just failed at last min due to job offer falling through. So still trying to make our dream come true. All this in three years.

Think we were just in the wrong place for work e,c,t.

My family live in Bradford. When i went back for a visit in Oct07, the only difference i saw was that there were many new shops, lots of pregnant teenagers....that's about it, everything else was the same.
I don't like Bradford centre, much prefer Leeds...but all the same it was nice to get back to familiarity.
The surrounding areas of Bradford are much nicer, good and bad everywhere.

I'm in Perth and although at the moment i do believe my kids are safer here, in time things will change, the more immigrants, more people, more trouble.

I myself am starting to question if we should stop trying to get there. considering how many times we have tried. And just not being able to get work, perhaps its just not to be. Has anybody else tried so many times? Trying to get there before visa runs out.

ausi dream, maybe it is third time lucky? Many migrants have problems with work unfortuantley. It is hard on the everyone emotionaly and as the boys get older they tend to want to go more their own way. I can't say it's best to give it another go or leave it alone. I think if you really want to give it another go then you won't be happy until you have. I hope you can secure the work before you go, all the best and I hope it works out for you this time.

there are days when i have said to my oh oh what the hell lets give it another go,then you sit down and think well whats going to be different.luckily our four yr business visa has run out so there is no going back so for us its all done and dusted.i think at one time oz was the place to be because of cheap living and cheap houses, trouble is there are so many migrants landing in oz that every thing has gone up,one thing that i found was that in not racist at all but because oz is so close to singapore etc that there are alot of asians etc settling in oz and before you no it the ozzies will become a minority you could say the same thing about the uk.i think when you have tryed it twice you can say i gave it my best shot, but its so easy to run away but thats not always the answer,i remember when we had to go to the local police station to get some paper work signed one of the officers said to us that there is one police person leaving the proffession a day out there and all these migrants that do come to oz never tell you the amount that actually leave.i do miss my miss mauds cakes, leonards the butchers very nice but not good for the waistline ha ha, life i think is what you make of it need to set goals etc, i think that if any one was thinking of it i would rent my house out in the uk, i no people will say that you have always got a tie but at least if it all goes tits up you have someting to come back to otherwise you may not afford it espeacially as the shipping company are making lots of dollars and pounds they do blimming well out of all us boomberang pommes, any way off to work A VERY HAPPY VALENTINES DAY to all where everyou are regards ginney

Hi Aussie Dream

Yep....been there... done that... got the teeshirt. Been back in UK 19 years but lived in boring Perth for 15 years previously......I still have that yearning to go back but can't persuade my wife and 2 teanage kids to go......I never got citizenship and missed the boat returng before my visa ran out, but could now return on a business visa. When I lived there I boomeranged that many times ubntill my wife put her foot down and said NO MORE. My sister, mum and brother all live in Perth. My Mum and Brother have boomeranged that much I am sure they should be in the guiness book of records. If it is utopia why do so many people go back and forth so many times.....Dont know what to suggest but if you are not sure it would be wise not to make the move.

Thankyou for your kind words blue john. Our boys are at an age to leave home and start a life for themselves, but having us all as a family together the last two times we went, cant imagine it without one of our sons. Our eldest has left home twice to live with his girlfriend and has come back again, but changes his mind from week to week to if he would come with us, so am finding we are running out of time on two aspects here. Just as we are finding it hard to get jobs in aus, our boys are finding it hard to in uk. So its the same all over i surpose.
