I'm glad you are not going down that road again, it only leads to more problems.
You was the one who brought up voting, not me.
You've said many times over the years that politics shouldnt be on this thread, so you of all people should know better, but still you continue to make negative comments or lie about our president, surely you dont expect us to sit here and let you get away with it, you call our president a great divider and here you are dividing this thread, what more can I say.

surely this is not the place for such personal remarks and accusations even if you disagree with her.
It wouldn't be appropriate to take this tone with anyone.
I believe there is an understanding on forums that one doesn't make ad hominem remarks or attacks.
Our dear friendly supportive thread is especially not the place for that, surely...
And please everyone, I'm not trying to be divisive by calling our old friend Fish on this....don't want to stir up a hornets' nest, not inviting anyone to join the fray; I'm just saying, Steady on, old chap!
(I'm in the UK at the moment, it's influencing my idiom! )

It is very blustery and chilly here in Gloucestershire right now. The indoor temp has fallen to 19 and I'm wrestling with whether or not to turn on the heating...however, it is much much warmer inside than out, so maybe I don't need to!
If you come from warmer climes (aries......?!!) you must be prepared for the chilliness here....it can be a shock.
And yet, it's still lovely here...that changeability in the sky that Sally and I and a few others keep going on about...that light....that particular shade of green...

I have really grown to love Rightmove too, we have seen so many lovely places within our price range and offering us more or less what we want. I also like to have a look on Google Earth to see what the surrounding area is like.
I love the Rightmove website. When you take a look at a house you can also do a street view. This gives an exellent idea of what the area looks like and how narrow the streets are or if they are hilly. I love some area but then when I see the steep hills I have to think a few years on so I think I will cross those off my list.
Shopping carts....Thankyou for the links. I think I will end up with one of those. I do remember buying my Mother one. She was most upset with me. She said those are only for old ladies. At the time she was in her 80's.

It is in the low 20's where are friends are in Wiltshire, it is pretty sheltered though. I reckon that isn't bad for October.

My first post for a while, and from my new and as yet, little explored iPad. It is a temporary replacement for my 24 inch iMac until I am resettled and can buy a 27 inch model.
My house is sold, and I move out next week. I have a tentative flight booked for 2nd November, though am not sure if I can make it. Some health problems cropped up to slow me down, and I see an eye specialist on the day of the house handover.
I suppose England will feel very cold, my winter clothing would be a bit of a laugh to those living in the UK. Ah well, from the fire into the fridge.

Best of luck with your move. I admire you for starting over and hope you will post more often. Hoping your eye doctor visit will not stop you long from heading back.

Question for the ladies who have returned about shopping for slacks/trousers/jeans:
Are you finding in regular, middle of the road prices- not boutique high end places that womens' slacks/trousers/jeans are available in different inseams?
I hate to hem and for the past few years the inseams here have gotten so long to accomodate the 3, 4, plus inch heels. I need 30 inch give or take a teeny bit. I see petites with a 29 inch inseam now and regular inseams from 31 to 33, that's crazy.

We dont have our heat on yet, but we live in the South, but it is down to 15 to 17 degrees lately so its definitely getting colder, you can feel that nip in the air,
But isn't it great what you and others say about the fast changeability in the sky, the skies light and cloud formations change while you are looking at it, yesterday when dusk was falling there was a very beautiful rainbow and little orange clouds scattered around it was lovely to watch,
I appreciate this kind of change cause I come from Las Vegas where for more then 7 months of the year you have (NOTHING) but constant blue skies to look at with blistering heat over 100f, every day, that kind of weather gets really boring after a few years, we do though look forward there to a little rain which sometimes even lasts for a whole day, we normally get that day of rain 3 times a year which makes up a whole three inches for the year
So it does get a little cold in U.K. and windy and rainy in winter but I will take this climate here in England over a desert climate like Vegas anyday, I love it
Take care Tina,
Rodney.
PS how long are you going to be in U.K. when are you going back to France?

And on a more serious topic, but something that will have to be faced later rather than sooner- I hope:
Funerals. Any ideas of the cost of a simple, or moderate burial? I don't want to google, just wondering about how much to plan for these costs.

Divisive is a highly subjective judgment call.
On a public forum such as this there is fortunately the freedom to post one's own opinion which some will agree with and some disagree with. It can only be considered divisive if everyone is expected to agree, or if one person feels they can control what is said.

Do people even say that anymore? I haven't heard that phrase in years.
The President was celebrated by many as the first black President, and equally he is hated by many for the same thing. But perhaps we could talk to the people with the racist banners and explain to them that he's only half black. I'm sure they'll tone it right down after that
I also love Rightmove. Spend way too much time on that site! I notice that Streetview in the UK is much more comprehensive than here - presumably because this is such a huge country. Only the most rural properties in the UK are not visible on there.

It's called Mixed Britannia, I think:
