I just found this article that indicates ExpatShield also works on a Mac; however, when I got o expatshield.com, I can't find the Mac download.

Not like here in Australia where it is invariably every man for himself.
I guess I will just have to drive at about 25 miles per hour... You think that will make people mad at me?? (innocent look)

I just found Hotspot Shield for the Mac and managed to instal it. It doesn't say how to use it, though.

What's the address of the BBC and ITV players so I can try it out?

Well, I was going, too, but I thought I'd have one last try to find the Mac version - and then I came across HotspotShield, which I think you also mentioned to me. I couldn't get that to work before either but this time I actually managed to download and install it

I haven't heard of HotspotShield. I did have a paid one called Identity Cloaker but the connection was a bit hit and miss, but I didn't mind as it was the first time in all these years I was able to get UK telly, however the Expat Shield is FANTASTIC connection wise. I have never not been able to watch a programme on ITV iPlayer or BBC iPlayer.

Yes, this is correct.

And for the record, even though I've been driving (in the US) for years, I'm going to book lessons from a local instructor who specialises in teaching Americans how to drive in the UK.

FWIW, the practical test has recently become even more involved. Besides the normal driving time/exercises with the instructor, you are also now required to drive for about 20-minutes of "independent driving", i.e., the instructor says something like, "Okay, Denise, you will now drive to Shepperton" and you have to know how to follow the signs to the destination he gives you - the course will take your through roundabouts, turns, twists, etc.

I might mention that there is an excellent - and I do mean excellent - CD-ROM that covers the theory and practical UK driving test. What I particularly like about the practical test portion is that they put a camera in the car and you actually "ride along" with the instructor/pupil and see what types of questions are asked, etc.

Whether you are in the US or the UK, if you are going to be taking the UK driving test once you're here, I highly recommend this. Available for purchase here: http://amzn.to/et4B19 (from UK)

Here's the description from Amazon:

With all the speed cameras over here, you can't afford to drive with a lead foot.
