No you don't have to, its not required and I don't plan to but I don't want to pay for those expensive lessons. Most Americans that emigrated to the UK will say they would never have passed the test without the lessons even though they had driven for ever in the US.
Tell you what go on those notorious British roundabouts and see if you need a lesson. I think it helps to close your eyes until you leave the roundabout.

I know you can just exchange your license like easipeasy. No problem. Cross that off the list.

My DH has been driving for 30+ years in the states and different countries too,we never got a car in London last time (no need ) .
You can watch a driving test on you tube ,just type in UK driving test and watch one in real time lol.
As a holder of Australian one ,I think you can just exchange yours anyway ...does that make it worse ?

I know all about the carriages and puddles, and Ford messing everything up with his damn car...lol
