I credit our car having anti lock brakes for us being able to stop in time. Then today in Nevada we saw this big accident and among the vehicles was a Nevada Highway Patrol car that was hit in the front and the back. Trucks involved again. Its becoming very common these day for the police to be hit when they respond to an accident.

Hi, Barbara!
Sayers, I remember them and then there was another big baker and I think it was called Blackledges. A friend of mine owned a lot of bakers shops and it was called Cousins but they closed down.

When I went back for a visit I went into a shop off Moorfields and down from the Playhouse Theater and bought pastries like money was going out of style. Blackcurrent tarts, almond tarts, neapolitans, merengues, lemon tarts. Now I wonder how I got diabetes??

I also miss sausage rolls, meat pies and black pudding which no one seems to mention here.
Glad you got back safe, scary seeing an accident in front of you.

Hey My Grandma worked for Cousins for years as a store manager (till she hit 60 and retired if I remember right) I used to love going in, it was so busy. They did sandwiches at lunchtime.
I remember they did a Wombles special back in the 70's she had us wracking our brains to come up with a different vegetarian filling for every day of the week I think I suggested Peanut butter Jelly and she did it.

I have a friend who applied here in CA, was working part-time after being made redundant, was denied. She told the truth about renting out a room for extra income......so she made too much.

Rod,
I was reading the Review Journal in Las Vegas. Man 23, from New York, jumped to his death in the alley way between Imperial Palace casino. Reid, no Federal money for Nevada. A positive note. If you bought stock in Sands for $1.38 two years ago it would be worth $38 today.

I look at the land in Las Vegas and all I see is ugly barren desert.

Cheers

Do you ever wonder Rodney whether fate plays a part in our lives. If you had not been laid off you might still be working in Vegas and not back in the UK pushing the decision a little further into the future. But here you are back with you Mum and family and I am sure she loves having your company as much as you enjoy hers. She no longer needs to worry about being on her own, everything fell into place for you.

I think the care you got for your skin condition was excellent and the timely manner in which you got seen was also good. My brother has been on the waiting list for a pacemaker for nearly a year. I suppose a lot of it depends on were you live.

My parcel which was mailed from the UK on the 9th December just arrived. Everything was in good condition. The maltesers, mint humbugs, cake, eccles cakes, chorley cakes, tea. I have squirreled them all way. Some to the freezer for future eats. Also the sell by date was still good
Your right Aviril, FATE is everything, I was happy with Marriott, good money too, good life, if I got laid off when I did and my circumstances were different say I was in my 30,s 40,s or 50,s I still probably would have stayed there, but at my time of life it just all fell into place in my mind and it suddenly struck me as a no brainer,
I was worried about the culture shock thing but guess what --- I have not gone through any of that at all, I felt at home right away, ---- but I still dont feel like I am an absolute fit yet,
Well I had my little ferry ride over to Gosport to my Dermatologist, I had a very good unhurried examination, I had to strip down to my underwear even though it was only on the feet, anyway my feet are in a bad way, and they are badly infected, so I got 5 items on this prescription --- including two different kinds of antibiotics for 7 days each,
The Dermatologist was a Woman, remember I have always had very good luck with WOMEN
She has fixed me up with 28 treatments of ultra violet light treatment at the hospital in Portsmouth St Marys, 2 each week for 14 weeks, that is supposed to really help it,
Take care.
Rodney.

I lived there for 5 years and I excepted it for what it was and now I'm glad I moved on to something better. As I just read the online version of the Las Vegas Review Journal newspaper I'm so........glad I moved on and I hope you are about to feel the same way. Just saying
