Thankfully I planted perennials over the past years and they just keep coming back each year. All I have to do is feed them and in some case divide and move. Cheaper than buying new plants. But all work. We have 3 acres so it gets to be very tiring at time. I do love my garden but cant wait to have a nice small area. Those tomato plants look very healthy.
It must be a little housing bubble, they are starting to drop at Mums in N.Wales.

A question for all those who have made it back home. How are you dealing with dentists. That is one area my family really get annoyed about. The price of a visit and cost of having anything done. By the way trying to find a dentist has been really hard for my friend who just went back to the UK. Most are not taking new patients.
Hello trotty, Just at the top of our street 5 minute walk an NHS dentist office just opened up about 3 months ago, so I recently just walked in showed them a letter proving where I live --- said I need an appointment please, she gave me one for 4 days later, went back --- Woman Dentist ----- as u know I always have good luck with the Women, she examined me said nothing needs to be done my teeth are fine, she cleaned and polished all teeth and I went to the receptionist and the charge was ----- £17.35 which is the basic NHS charge for examination plus cleaning and polishing which come with it,
I dont mind telling you my dear trotty that it was an absolute Joy to be seen by a Dentist where --- trying to get as many thousands of dollars from (you) and your health insurance company as possible was neither the object or the priority here,

Same goes with the Doctors and specialists here in UK --- just good old fashioned care, without the (GREED) ---- the NHS had me at hello aint that the truth.
Rodney.
PS there is a notice of prices on the wall of the dentist office, and say you had a lot of dental work to be done ---- including as many crowns as you need or even bridges ---- get the picture --- WHATEVER YOU HAVE DONE AT A NHS DENTIST ---- the maximum charge after its all done is ---- get this ---- £210 ----- my co pay in America for a dentist once was over $1500 and my health care paid another $1500 --- it was the usual 50/50 split, and that was years ago.

I really hope things work out for you and you are able to come back home I lay in bed the other morning thinking over my life and the "what ifs", i wondered if I had a crystal ball would I have stayed in Canada, and surprisingly I thought no I stll would have come back, because although we had a good standard of living at that time and some really good friends something was always missing, and I think it was a feeling of not really belonging . When I returned I just felt this home where I belong" its not without its problems nor is it utopia but it is home and as the saying goes, " theres no place like home" I really appreciate it now warts and all Denise

I am sure you will make lots of new friends. Belfast folks are VERY friendly. Being an International dog judge I have many friends in that UK and a few in NI. I also have three or four school friends from way back when, also from my days at QUB. Although the dogs will be ready to in a month, things hsve stalled somewhat on getting the house ready for sale. How is the weather? Are you both retired or job hunting? I hope you are very happy there. Is getting back to driving over there a challenge?

That's great Rodney...what service. They are just about to open two more NHS dentist's offices here in Brixham. The NHS web site is brilliant as it will tell you which dentists there are closest to your post code accepting new patients.

The weather is Irish four seasons in one, but such is life, I can go to europe for a short break if I get really fed up here, my sister lives in Geneva
so I can take a quick trip over to see her. you talked about Queens University if you don't mind me asking what year, My brother in law was there i n the late 60's, but has worked in CERN in Geneva for the past 35 years and is now head of accelerations for that company and was very involved in "the big bang theory" that has been in all the news and tv. He Has been invited to Huston Texas to give a talk in the next couple of months, he has also talked at stanford university, UCLA, Boston and NY, maybe you have heard of him Dr. Stephen Myers. We are retired now, due mostly to my husbands health record, but I have just applied to a golf course close to this house and hope to meet new friends ect: Driving a left hand drive is a challenge, but I just try to remember the steering wheel is closest to the sidewalk and it keeps me right. regards Denise

Hi Cheers no rain Im afraid and nothing expected either, most days are either scattered clouds with Sun or just plain beautiful all blue skies and sunshine throughout the day, Im getting a good suntan too
My feet are sooo improving, in just a few months I ve gone from hardly able to walk to normally walking and my feet are looking quite normal now, thanks to the absolutely wonderful NHS care Im getting, I still get my UV ray light treatment twice a week at hospital, you know its so nice when I walk into the hospital or the doctors office no one ever asks for my I.D. or heath provider card, you Just tell em your name and thats it, and theres never of course any charge so you could if you want just leave your wallet at home cause its not needed, and oh what a Joy to know that you will NEVER EVER get a medical bill through the mail demanding payment and free prescriptions to boot
Take care my friend,
Rodney

Rodney I will be your friend as soon as we get home But you need to join some clubs. Have you any hobbies or have you looked at community classes for different things. You could meet someone at class.

Mixing in can take time Rodney, have you enquired about social clubs in Portsmouth for retired people? Generally they are pleased to welcome new members, your local library probably has piles of information. I'm aged 73, but when I return (and despite my cardiac problems), will be looking for a table tennis club.

Oh Rodney that is terrible I know where you are coming from and as the saying goes, you can be lonely in a crowd, sometimes I think more lonely looking at others together and having a good time and feeling left out is just awful. I wish I lived close to you to go for a drink with you, but I am too far away. If you don't mind me suggesting do any of the pubs you go to have darts or skittles? something like that that you could join? or outside of the pubs what about your library? they have different things posted to their notice board for different events. When friends of ours returned to Scotland after living in Switzerland for a lot of years, she joined a book club with the Library, he has a small boat and joined some sort of sailing club. Another friend is a golf widow so she joined a walking club, maybe you like fishing or something like that, I am sure the Library would help you get in touch with the right group, or maybe amateur dramatics. You really need to look into it Rodney or you will get depressed and fall into a rut. please check the collages for evening classes as well. I really feel for you and I hope you get something to join and become part of a group and from that you will make friends, I find as we get older it is so much harder to break down the barriers, and that was how I felt when we returned to Canada on our own. Please keep me informed how you get on heres you all the best Denise x
