Re: OVER 50's & 60's MOVING BACK TO THE UK - Part II
If you are a first-time buyer the threshold for when you start to pay SDLT is £250,000. This is only if you have never owned a house or flat in the UK or anywhere else in the world. If you are buying with someone else they must never have owned property before either. This higher threshold applies to purchases made on or after 25 March 2010 and before 25 March 2012
....so because I have owned property outside of the UK I have to pay SDLT.

Totally beautiful - and so, so green! I love the cottages and all those winding narrow roads. I see one shop, a deli, had its website address as the shop name - excellent idea! Broadwaydeli.co.uk - must go and visit
And from that deli's lunchtime takeaway menu, see the excellent prices below!
Pastry Items
Sausage roll - £1.99
Beef and vegetable pasty - £1.95
Chicken and ham pie - £1.55
Pork pie - £1.35
Vegetable samosa - £1.50
Goat’s cheese, red pepper and pesto parcel - £3.25
Spinach and feta pasty - £2.75

Maybe it should have been close to $1.61
I use this web site but maybe you have to trade a million $'s.

There has been a lot of talk here recently about Yorkshire and I just noticed this on the BBC iPlayer:

On the subject of Stamp Duty I didn't think I would have to pay it being a first time buyer in UK. But no, this is not the case. The government says the following:
If you are a first-time buyer the threshold for when you start to pay SDLT is £250,000. This is only if you have never owned a house or flat in the UK or anywhere else in the world. Isn't it ironic... they won't use out-of-UK history for driving history, credit rating but when it comes to collecting taxes.....

You're right. Of course, I would be willing to bet that someone who had a pile on Malibu would have their own insights into tax breaks in other areas.
