Re: OVER 50's & 60's MOVING BACK TO THE UK - Part II
Hi, everyone..
Well its been three days, and my sleep is still all messed up, but it is great to be here. I have had fish n' chips, sausauge rolls, and am up to about 800 on the cups of tea (witch may have something to do with my sleep being messed up)..lol. The weather is very cold, yesterday was sunny, but today it is gray again.
Good news Dowton Abbey has already been on here, but they are going to show it again soon, so I see the rest of it
Bee and Don, not long for you now..its funny, as soon as you get here its almost like you never left...
Will wright more later...

Re: OVER 50's & 60's MOVING BACK TO THE UK - Part II
I remember in one of Bill Bryson's books he described the extensive passenger rail network in the US back at the turn of the 20th century, and how the car simply closed down all the business for rail companies. Not sure why bus transport hasn't really taken off, however. Most towns also aren't designed for walking (no sidewalks) or cycling (no bike lanes and homicidal drivers).
I think it depends on where you live in the US. When I lived in Georgia, there were no sidewalks or cycle paths - but then it was a small town. There are sidewalks where I live now, also cycle paths and also where I lived in Illinois (Chicago suburb) there were sidewalks and cycle paths. Of course the more rural communities don't have these - most of them don't even have street lights.

We're pretty lucky round here. We have a wonderful local train service into New York City, plus lots of buses and the whole area is set up for walking.
There are Amtrak trains to Boston, DC and Philly, but those are really expensive.

Easterndawn - quick recommendation for a car... if you're looking for a used car for not too much, I'd recommend a Nissan Micra. We got a 2002 one last summer for £950 and it has been great! No problems, not even in the cold. They are known to be really reliable, and there are usually quite a few of them about for sale 2nd hand...

Well that's it folks, I just sold all my furniture in one hit to a young couple just starting out, no negotiating on the price or anything!! (OK the greedy part of me thinks I should have asked for more LOL!!)
But the deal is done now, or it will be when they pay the money into my bank account, I told them they could pick it up a week earlier than I intended so that's it, I JUST HAVE to go home now as I will have nowhere to sit or sleep LOL!!
28 sleeps and I will be on the flip side as Jackie says............
Still no news on the London job, oh how these big corporations move sooooo slowly........

Things are coming together just had some good news, the people who are buying our home are going to take my cat Neko so she will stay just where she knows and they love cats it is such a relief.I thought they were joking when they asked if the cat came with the house

That is a relief, we hope that the people who buy ours will keep our cat too, she's mostly outdoors and is a great mouser, also like birds and gophers too.
