One major hurdle to moving gone :)
 

One of the issues we have/had with moving back was the timing of the whole thing in regards to how long we want to be apart. My wife has to finish her degree here but she wants me to go there to catch the last of summer and spend some time with my parents, set up a house job etc, and she’ll get her Dad over for some company. Given the trauma of my accident, getting over there seems ever more important now to both of us.

But I couldn’t go if her results for this semester were not good as that would mean a repeated semester which puts us into next year so that would simply be too many mths apart if I went in Sept this year. But I’m cognisant of my parent’s age etc. This semester was by far the hardest in terms of subjects and exam questions and was harder than next semester’s subjects will be. So a lot was riding on her results!:unsure:

Sooo, this morning I get an email from wifey.

Distinction, Distinction, Pass :thumbsup:

Seeing how she is Asian the whole ‘pass’ thing does not sit well with her, as Credit is the lowest she’s had all degree (she usually has HD and Ds) but I managed to persuade her not to jump off the nearest tall building. :lol: But my accident caused so much disruption to her study that I would have felt enormously guilty had she not passed.

She’s a star, I’m jolly proud of her (as always).:wub:

Now we have a couple visa related questions/timings that we need to work out but we are both agreed that probably the biggest hurdle has been jumped.

Congratulations to Mrs. Triboy! As you say, it's not easy to study with someone you love in and out of hospital.

As most of the student's at my uni used to say "A 'P' is a degree" !!

I understand her wanting to get D's and HD's etc as they will convert to a first or a 2;1 over here when she goes through NARIC.

Another hurdle down...several more to go...it's worth it in the end!!:thumbsup:

Thx, what is NARIC? Some kind of recognition thing? AFAIK she'll be taking a year or so off then heading down the CA path.

Yes, NARIC is the company you pay to get your degree converted and recognised in the UK. Personally I haven't done it, haven't needed to, just state on my C.V what level I got and take my parchment and other docs to interviews.

Thx all. I 'think' it just got a bit better. We have our answers from Canberra, it was a lot less complex than I had thought it would be. The main one was whether the SV can be applied for if I'm there and Mrs T is here (which is no problem).

The other issue was because of the 4yr married thing I didn't know which visa we should go for, but there is no choice. SV and then when wifey is in the UK it can be switched to ILR (if approved). We'll cross that bridge when we come to it but it makes the process here simpler at least.

Well done to Mre T. What a relief, so get moving, both of you. I'm sure your father in law will have a lovely time spending time in OZ with his daughter before she joins you in UK.

I wish. :D My boss has just left for a week's holiday, so my very rough plan is put my notice in by the end of July (I'll have to work 4wks min). I'm a bit stuck between doing the right thing by my current employer as my boss has been brilliant with my accident (mind you, even I do say myself, I've been pretty good to them over the years under very high pressure) and getting to the UK.

I also have to gauge the job situation in the UK and gather momentum here, for over there. I've already started that and had some contacts from before that I stayed in touch with. But at a professional seminar back in March I met an English guy who has some impressive contacts in my profession and industry and he's helping.

One thing I'd like to do is catch the end of summer in the UK so I can do some fishing with Dad etc. But if circumstances dictate that I can't get there until late Oct/Nov (for whatever reason) I'll probably stay here until just before Xmas as I'd earn more money right up until the last minute and I won't land a job at Xmas time anyway.

I don't think that will happen as the early signs from UK contacts are good (sometimes it pays to specialise!) Just mentally preparing for all contingencies. It's weird, now I'm 'cleared' to go I'm more relaxed about the whole thing.:blink:

Great News for Mrs T:thumbup:....we are in a similar position to you...OH studying for a degree (has to do it by correspondance though) and youngest son has to finish year 11 this Dec 09, we then have a rental until March 10, we always planned to be back in time for Summer but Spring will suit just fine....what you have to think of is all the other Summers you can spend with your Dad fishing.... so even if you don't make it this Summer you'll have many others, that's how I am looking a it ......as for contacts Oh is doing exactly the same and just thinking of the money he is earning whilst here....for the first time in our lives we are being Practical and Grown up.....scary...lol.....

Reminds me of a conversation I had with my sister a few years back. We were very close (not in the Tasmanian way) before I went to Oz, and we both rode motorbikes and had similar mates etc and life was an all round pretty good laugh.

Anyway on one of my trips home about 5yrs ago, we were in the car on our own and she was moaning about something one of the kids had done, and I was moaning about something or other that was going on back in Oz, then we had a couple of minutes silence, and she said:

'I hate being an adult' :lol:
