Default Looking for information

Hello fellow expats
Sorry I've been away so long.
Both of my parents are ill and I was let go from my job last week.
A day before I was supposed to receive benefits too (don't that happen in the UK?)

Anyway, does anybody know of any LEGITIMATE websites about British culture, British law, living in the UK and working in the UK?
I've probably asked this before but I don't have time to go through my older posts.
Thank you for any help you wish to provide.

If you can't go back through your old posts, neither can we, so please cab you tell us the basis on which you are, or intend to become eligible to live and work in the UK?

Um, I didn't ask anybody to go back through my old posts, I asked for links to the rules of Britain.
If I have to do my own research I will.
I just thought I could save time by asking if anybody knew of any links to the above requests.
Thank you

(Whew tough audience)

Britain doesn't have any "rules" you can link to, it doesn't even have a constitution. It does however have enough laws to fill a library.

But as, having had a quick dip into your posting history, you aren't British and have no easy way to get a visa to live and work in Britain, I hope you enjoy your vacations in Britain. My tip would be that you'll enjoy them more if you stay clear of Reading and Swindon.

My great grandmother came from Britain and I have documentation to prove it.
I am hopeful that once proper evidence is presented, I will be able to take up residence.
To your point, nothing is guaranteed but I will worry about these issues when the time comes.

Are your parents in Britain, and you want to go there to help look after them? Are you a U.S. citizen or some other country?

One place to look would be the UK Yankee Forum. It's a forum by & for Americans living in Britain, and has sections on things like how to get a visa, the National Health Service, how to deal with homesickness, taxation issues for Americans living abroad, how to live in a cold damp flat with no tumble dryer and other UK-specific issues.

As far as I'm aware, having a great-grandparent born in the UK doesn't fulfill Home Office immigration criteria for living here visa-free, however you could try posting any specific questions about your situation here Citizenship/Passports and Spouse/Family Visas (UK) - British Expats There are some very knowledgeable people in that section of BE and if there are any avenues you can pursue, they would know. Conversely, if there's no chance of you being permitted to live in the UK based on your great-grandmother's citizenship alone, as I suspect is the case, they'd know that too.

Even though I have 3 grandparents who were born in the UK to British parents, and am from a Commonwealth country (Australia), I'm only living in the UK courtesy of my British husband and a spouse visa which costs several thousand pounds. I could have obtained an ancestry visa because I have British grandparents, but that's a working visa and I have no intention of working.

It will be 5 years before I can live here without being under immigration control. And I'm fine with all of that, if I want to live in a country other than the one I'm a citizen of, then I comply with that country's immigration legislation and processes, simple as that.

I think it would be good for you to get a definitive answer regarding any possibility of you living in the UK, with or without a visa. Uncertainty isn't easy to live with - once you're clear on your options, or lack thereof, you can move on and concentrate on something that's within your control.

As a US citizen, any ancestry further back than your parents is irrelevant, unless one of your grandparents was serving in the British armed forces or diplomatic service when one of your parents was born. As your most recent British ancestry is one additional generation back, you will not be eligible for British citizenship, and will need to get a visa through one of the other routes, which basically means through employment, meaning either transfer by your employer or specialist skills that are in short supply in the UK.

If you are not older than 30 you can probably get a "working holiday" visa, but that only gives you two years in the UK.

We will be happy to advise on your other questions once you have established your route to a visa to live in the UK. Until then you would be wasting your time and ours in pursuing those questions.

Even that would only work because you are a British Commonwealth citizen, but wouldn't work for a US citizen.

Thanks for the information everybody
Regarding citizenship, it's not something I can consider yet. First, I have to hopefully acquire a visa and then I'll move on from there.
