I seem to be getting properties around Marlborough in my inbox (not Rightmove but better to view on Rightmove). This one came in today. I would be concerned about "cash buyers only". The only reason I can think of for this is if it is unmortgageable. What do you think?

I know this flat isn't the usual thing I go for but this is a rental that is all about the location. When I think about morning walks on the beach I can actually smell the sea.

This one's a little further from the beach but what a sweet cottage.

Again, it's the location:

Aries, though there aren't any interior photos, I was thinking of this for you in terms of location, right beside the marina:

Guess from the description that it's a pre-fab, built just post war, that may well be why you can't get a mortgage, same as for mobile park homes, they are not brick, stone or concrete built.

Taken from Wiki:

Reema construction is a system of building using prefabricated reinforced concrete panels which came into being in the late 1940s and was still in use well into the 1960s.

Buildings made in this way are currently (2008) very hard to obtain finance on in the UK, primarily due to potential problems with similar large panel system construction buildings, such as Ronan Point. There are two different types of Reema Construction, Reema Hollow Panel, and Reema Conclad. Owners of Reema Conclad will have a slightly easier time obtaining a mortgage, but many major high street lenders will still not fund purchase of this type of building.

Beside the marina would be ideal, I love boats and the sea.

I had not thought of Weymouth, also it is for rent and not purchase. My Aussie pensions drops by about 40% if I don't buy somewhere to live, though I suppose I could easily make up the rest with interest from money in the bank.

You are a little remote on this side of the Marina but that is not all bad in Weymouth.

Note that the M&S in Weymouth is pretty grotesque but there are both Waitrose and Tesco in Dorchester and they deliver.

Sainsbury's are further afield but they also deliver in Weymouth.

Weymouth has a monthly farmer's market.

It amazes me that the homes in England have much bigger gardens than in the US. This is a generalization and it may not be true with the new builds. I thought this house was just up your alley with the big garden but then on street view I saw it was on an 'estate' so it turned me off.
Not a bad price and closer to London.

You picked some good ones!
#824. The homes don't sparkle but I see in the one end they have the builders in on two homes so that indicates to me people are upgrading in the area not that we care if renting.
#579 I definitely like this over the first one. Looks great on street view although I didn't find it but the location is luvly......
#617 I also like. Plenty of shopping in the area. When I look at flats I think I am free to lock up and travel. A big plus is it being new so everything should function like it should.

£399,999 in Plymouth. Quite posh inside.

Very peaceful.

I just noticed on photo three and four that there is an American flag in the living room.

Thanks for the link which I checked and then found these couple of offshoots. I was very pleased to see that Dorset has a program of rural development:

... and lots of local food (click on each place for local pub fare and farmers' markets:
