Re: Location, location, location
Aside from my promises of properties near good transport links here are a couple of properties in Purbeck which is a very desirable area.
1. Grade 2 listed:
Any thoughts, questions, concerns.
http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-...-18637089.html
2. Leasehold flat, no terms given.
I always feel like I've lobbed a grenade into a room when I post leaseholds.
http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-...-32906579.html
No garden just a parking space, so good for your second home.
Could be a second home and upstairs could be a holiday home. EEK!

Re: Location, location, location
Until a year ago my brother and his wife lived in a beautiful converted barn, but every service they needed was at least 8 miles away, they didn't even have a village store. At least they had two cars. Some years ago I became ill just days after arriving there, and their nearest hospital said it would be quicker for my brother to drive me than to send an ambulance.

I'll tell you what!
Now I'm going to look at areas that have major (trunk) road access close-by (e.g. A303), plus well used railway stations (non-(London)commutable), maybe plus bus service by the majors such as First, Arriva and Stagecoach, then I think we have a stable transport situation.

We also have to consider services and Hospital and A&E, right aries?
By the way, I got no comments on my Cornwall bit and flights ex Newquay. Truro is very well-connected for transport, medical, schools, leisure, shopping, period houses and for being more cosmopolitan than the rest of Cornwall.

This is another weekly feature in the Guardian in the Society Section for careers/employment purposes but it gives the low-down of Council performance and services, Health, Commuter links and housing.
This one is for Lancaster but there are many others, back to 2006.

I went into google for West Country art centres and understand your major visual arts area priorities though Cornwall (theatre) arts seem to be centred on Redruth/Camborne. For the culture vultures that should be considered as well, along with museums such as the excellent one I have visited in Devizes.

That first one would be scary to maintain.
Really liked #3 but especially the 2 with potential.

#2 Quite nice. But as you say, no garden. Even in a rental I need a garden. I think I am a long way from thinking about a holiday home. You're right... I can't quite get my head around a leasehold. Why not just rent and keep your money?
I like the location of both of these, even though they are quite a way from a rail station, they are as you rightly say in a desirable area.

Isaac Newton came from Colsterworth. Any apple trees? Lovely stone houses in the High Street.
An "awful" lot of house and buildings.

A beautiful part of the world well located off the A1 not far from Grantham, for London.
Castle Bytham is also in this area - Beautiful Villages of England

I too have visited the museum in Devizes and was quite impressed. I like Devizes (where the afore-mentioned 86yo 2nd cousin lives) but to be honest the canals frighten me (or rather the locks). Growing up in Bedford (on the River Ouse, with many weirs) I remember them finding bodies in the water and it made an indelible impression on me as a child, even though I am a strong swimmer and used to swim with my friends in the river at Bromham.

1. A potential investment... wonder what the rental market is like there.
2. A sweet little house at a good price but no garden and the area across the street is a strange conglomeration of ?
3. Same Nice house... good price... no garden.
4. Not very taken with the outside... where are the gardens?
5. I wouldn't personally buy a flat unless I could find a good reason. Wonder what the fees are on this?
6. Probably quite draughty... old sash windows (no mention of double glazing) or from the cars going by... it's we3dged between 2 roads hence no back garden.
Pick of the day? Much better. As you know though I am not a fan of oil central heating. Anyone have comments on this and if it can be converted to gas?

I have a great love of outbuildings.
I have read many positive things about Lincolnshire and feel that it will be an up-and-coming area to live with affordable properties. Not quite there yet though.
