It's just like people. If you don't see someone for 20 years, you are shocked to find that they have aged - even though realistically you know that must be the case. Things just get locked in our minds the way they were.

My experience is that I'm not shocked they've changed because I don't actually recognise them at all. A few years ago I failed to pick my first husband out of a group photo. The fact that men of my generation usually had long hair in their youth, and were frequently bearded, doesn't help.

But sometimes, people can have experiences and perceptions totally different from yours. It's not that hard to imagine it if you try :) |
