Is this a womans thing? Just asking.

I would not reconnect with my cousins. I want a new start.

Me? I'm just totally confused.
At the moment I'm on here, shall I go back Home (and 'yes' I do still call it home), on an Australian thread and I have thought of just giving the South Island of NZ a go. Now throw into the mix, back to the village where we came from or another UK area. This is all turning me into one undecisive crazy person.
Perhaps just put me in the nearest nuthouse. Now do I want a padded cell or not?

I so know this feeling. We are wondering whether to move home, and if we go home, whereabouts. Or should we stay here, but if we stay here, we'd like to move somewhere a little less expensive, but then where? Maybe Maine. Maybe New Hampshire. Or maybe the West Coast - Portland or Seattle. Definitely not the south - we wouldn't fit in there. Then we have Canadian citizenship, so what about Vancouver?

So basically, all I know is I don't want to live in the deep south of America. Not much to go on really.

Strange I've thought of Maine also. Property is cheap there. They have 7 month winters there;) and all the other states you mentioned the property prices are sky high.

If you want a suggestion from me look at Tenby in Wales. Google it! Put in a price range on 'Rightmove' and see what you come up with.

Cheers

Thanks, I'll check that out.

btw- we had some great vacations in Utah at Zion national Park and the Arches, but I don't think it's for me year-round.

I know the places I mentioned are not the cheapest, but trust me, they are a bargain compared to where I live!

Maine's winter doesn't bother me too much - I lived in Toronto for 6 years so I know what it's like. But I worry that it's too 'dueling banjos' for us. If we decide against returning home, we'll have to go check it out. I've been to Portland and loved it - but that takes us further away from family and friends. Argh! Confused!

I think it is Portland where there is no sales tax:thumbsup:
I agree I love the Northwest and the climate is probably the closest you'll get to the UK only better.

So true. When I went there, what struck me was how very green everything was. Maybe even greener than England in some places! I went to a conservation area a few miles from the city - can't remember what it was called - but as I drove up into the hills, I was just amazed by the greenery. Thousands of tiny ferns were actually growing out of tree trunks. I kept driving and went through an area of vineyards and lush valleys. Kept driving and wound up in a mountainous area, with snow so thick I could hardly see. All that was within a day trip of Portland. Amazing!

 You are funny, didn't you spend your honeymoon in Llanwrst with the peacocks
We've improved our lot over the years and Ds and his Grandma are in Glan Conwy now, closer to Llanrwst. But I still have a soft spot for the Bay.

The Good News and the Bad News........
The Good News, my daughter is staring her NCEAs next year. She already has a couple of credits towards them and has been put in the top class for English, top class for Science and the middle class for Maths.

The Bad News, this means we are here for another couple of years. Yes, she may well slot into the UK exam system easily but is it worth that risk when she's on target here?

They don't tell you all this when you buy the baby books when you first have them!;)

Aww at least you have a time to aim for them, 2 years it is. You'll have time to sort and sell and get all your ducks in a row.

I have been facing the 'two year' plan now for a while.
I have found just knowing that out there in the future (a couple of years) we are out of here makes it bearable most days. I still have bad ones - like today is the pits - but ...
My etd was for August this year - but that has now, once again, been extended to next year. More to do with the lack of work in my OH industry. They will take him when there is work, but until there is ...

But honestly, like Mummy said, it gives you time to clear out the house and sell things on TM that you aren't using. I set up a 'moving fund' and add to that occasionally. The proceeds from each time I clear out another cupboard and raise a little cash. Just makes me feel like I am working towards the goal.
And in the mean time we are doing the final few things that we would like to see before we leave.
