Hello everyone I'm back

Hello all
It's been a while since I've visited. Had some family matters to attend to.
Everything is okay and I am resuming my itinerary for my first UK visit.
Of course I have many questions that I will ask in the next few days.
I hope to visit everywhere from London to Seward's End (ah bet you didn't think I had knowledge about that village huh?).
Anyway, I am looking forward to my England visit.
See you soon.

I've moved your post to our Moving Back to the UK section which seems the most appropriate - the Welcome Inn is really just for first time introductions :)

Okay. It doesn't matter where the post is. I just wanted to say hello. :britflag:

Since you last visited Brighton Pier has burned down, btw. I remember you were planning to visit it.

Re: Hello everyone I'm back

Correction, it was Eastbourne pier that burnt down this year.

Why Seward's End?

Re: Hello everyone I'm back

No particular reason except that I want to explore every corner of the country.
If there are other more interesting villages, please let me know.

There are several thousand villages in England. How many do you want to know about?

I don't see why, since it is in Wales.

Thousands? Oh my
Just throw some names out and I'll start doing more research.
I am sure they are appealing in their own little way.

I'm sorry to read that a pier burned down. Was it as exciting as Brighton?

My mother was posted to HMS Middle Wallop during the war and was put on a charge when she did not turn up, thinking it was a joke.
So Nether Wallop must be worth a visit.

The villages I'd like to visit are St Mary Mead, Much-Binding-In-The-Marsh, and Ambridge.

I know, but get used to people saying England when they mean GB or UK so the penny didn't drop

That's definitely a mistake you can't make up here. Even saying "Britain" or "British" elicits contempt from some people. The Yes voters aren't giving up.

Ah well, first you die and go to heaven. Problem with Ambridge, all the interesting people died decades ago.

Hello everyone
I clicked on the link for the list of villages and you were not kidding.
There are plenty to research.
Anyway, it should be fun.
Be back soon with some names

I must confess that some of those English place-names make the eyes water.

Of course the French have similar embarrassing place names, which may be of particular interest to one person on the forum who I know is currently making the move back to UK.
@Bigglesworth,
The following may bring back a few French memories:-
Top 28 des noms et panneaux de ville et village insolites, droles en image | Topito

You may have seen it before, but check out the 'Montcuq' video - the translation from this place-name being 'MyArse.'
Since it's tv broadcast a number of years back, the video has since become a classic in France. The dialogue and play upon words for those who can follow it is brilliant!

TP I dont know where you got my return from - no such plans.
On est content dans La Charente.

Whoops, sorry about that Biggles. My wires obviously crossed.

With the village Montcuq, both the t and the q are silent.
Similarly with the word 'cul', the 'l' is silent. (Unlike Cul-de-sac) where the 'l' is softly pronounced.

Vive la Charente!

I do hope you did not think I was taking the "p".

It was silent, as in bath.:p

Haven't been here long so am no expert but, for what it's worth, I'd give every village in the county of Midsomer a miss.

Speaking of strange place names....

I was on a coach heading for Minehead on a dark and stormy night when I spied a road sign that pointed to 'Catbrain Hill'. I have nightmares to this day! Could it be as scary as it sounds?

Take a look on Google maps. Disappointingly, it is a row of post-war semis.

Took a look on Google maps as you suggested. Didn't even see a cat let alone....well, you know. All those nightmares for nothing!
