OK ... that's a connection I'm not familiar with. Is it covered in the news?

Seems most high-ups in finance have some sort of skeleton(s) in the closet but this guy is pretty squeaky clean. Or maybe not, depending on what you are referring to(?)

UBS, which believes Mark Carney's appointment to head the Bank of England signals a more conciliatory regulatory environment for U.K. banks, changed its rating on RBS from neutral to BUY as a result of the new BOE governor appointment. Shares up 3% so far today. Not everybody agrees with UBS's sentiments on this - others see him as a hard-liner.

I wonder how many people in the banking industry mysteriously bought RBS shares in the past week.

Not exactly Good news due to the fact that the number of boarded up buildings in the UK has reached such levels that there has been a website made to address the problem. The good news is that some has taken the initiative to do something about these eysores.

Interesting post Bud, oddly the tale of the housing shortage was discussed on TV this morning. Apparently the housing shortage would be addressed if only 2% of existing numbers were built.
This being the equivalent of building another London.
No mention was made of existing housing that is empty although one commentator did ask how it was that Supermarkets could build so many single storey superstores when the space above them could be built upon.

I don't thing I read Mag's post the same way you did.

Rather than it being surprising that there is any good news about the UK I read it that MagsB was surprised about the article regarding how good the UK education system is, especially given the way the media on the whole in the UK runs down the schools and promotes the bad stuff about them all the time. So it's not surprising folk would assume the system is not good compared to other countries.

That is how I took it as well Sue, its like I said it is an unfortunate British trait to find good things about Britain surprising, no doubt 'helped' as you say by the media. The OP as you say seems surprised that the education system is as good as it is, why be surprised though ?
