Football. Scotland v. Serbia
 
I made the mistake of posting on social media a comment to the effect that this is a football game. 22 grown men kicking a ball about. My comment did not go down well with the audience on Facebook. What did I say wrong ? Do I need to practice Social Skills more ?

Try to see things through less serious eyes. Accept the fact that football is popular.

Just do not expect me to take an interest. We all know that SHINTY is the only serious game. With HURLING in second place !

Presumably, maybe questioning the accuracy of the statement "grown men"?

Hi BristolUK, Yes football is popular but,so it seems is smoking dope,& "grown men" often do that too.

In Glasgow, taking an interest in fitba is not just popular, it is mandatory. There is a good introductory article here:

That Wikipedia article, allegedly in Scots was written by a US teenager who has no knowledge of the language apart from an online dictionary. He was exposed a few weeks ago. Writing in Scots prose is difficult enough for us native speakers ! Leave it to us !
