Back in UK - bank selling Dutch house at auction
Hi all!
We moved back to the UK from the Netherlands in 2013, and haven’t regretted it at all (despite my husband losing his job just before Christmas ).
Our Dutch house was rented out and the rent covered mortgage payments. However, early this year, the Dutch bank with whom we have our mortgage decided we needed to sell the house as the rental agreement was apparently only a ‘temporary’ solution.
Despite our efforts to sell (not easy from over here) and our tenant wanting to buy, the bank has decided enough is enough, and have told us they are putting the house up for auction. We have received a letter which gives notice of a court date (we haven’t had chance to translate it yet as only saw letter last night) but it’s clear we will need some legal advice. We can’t afford to go to the Netherlands and can’t really afford legal advice either, but obviously can’t just ignore what’s happening.
I think we need a lawyer in the UK who has experience with Dutch/EU law - can anyone recommend one please?
Apologies if this is in the wrong place - I didn’t think it fitted in the Netherlands forum as we are back in the UK and dealing with things from over here.
Thanks in advance.

Maybe you could give the Dutch Embassy in London a call? They may have a list of lawyers with knowledge of Dutch property law who practice in the UK.
Also look at this website: www.expatax.nl (it’s in English) and look up the ‘Knowlege Base” and Financial Planning section under mortgages. There are similar questions and answers to your original post there which you can look up
