I saw AB one night when flying from Alaska. I believe it can be seen from time to time north of Toronto, but you have to drive well north of the city to escape the city lights.

Ticked it off the bucket list last November on a cruise to Alta & Tromso in Norway. -35 degrees. Our guide threw some water from a flask in the air and it had frozen before it hit the ground. I was dying for a pee but decided to wait till I got back to the ship. :0 This was the second attempt after a failed trip to Whitehorse in the Yukon.
