Advice on flights from Phx to UK

As some may know I am going back to UK this year but only for 2 weeks or so (would lose my job otherwise). I live in Phoenix and we have direct flights to LHR. I can visit friends down south for a few days but.. If I book Phx to LHR direct it's $1500. BUT if I price Phx to Dublin I get under $1200. The flight goes to LHR and then puddle jumper from LGW to Dublin. So what happens if I don't take the second leg of this trip? I assume my luggage won't be transferred to LGW (maybe wrong). On return flight is DUB- LHR-LHR-PHX. So I could just do the LHR- PHX route. So not take 1 leg of each trip? Is this doable? Thanks

You should be aware that if you skip any leg on the flight itinary, the airline might cancel any remaining flight segments of the trip (including the return flights).

It is a controversial issue but the airlines do it for pricing policy reasons. If you google the terms "hidden city ticketing" and/or "throw away ticketing" you can find out more about it.

Thanks Apollo 13. Not worth risking it but thought I'd just check.

I don't know how much, any, difference it would make but you could price 2 x one way flights.
1 PHX to Dublin
2 LHR to PHX

or

1 x Multiple leg flight.
Leg 1. PHX to Dublin
Leg 2. LHR to PHX

(With no Dublin to LHR leg.)

If you can avoid flying into the UK, you'll save money as you'll avoid the air duty.

Try finding something straight from the States into Dublin.

That's good too. PHX to Dublin along with puddle jumpers. Ryanair for example.

I know about avoiding the airport taxes by flying into Dublin. Did it last year. Thanks everyone though for your input - much appreciated.
