Re: 5 Years On
Husband and I took the train from Glasgow to Mallaig two years ago. Spent the night at a lovely B&B overlooking the sea at Mallaig. Mallaig is so pretty. On the way back, three large stag stood side-by-side watching the train go by. Lovely trip.

The view is not from my window but this is how things look in Rothesay on the Isle of Bute. I am still pleased that I found the place - even if it is slowly decaying through neglect. What we need is an economic boom in the Clyde Estuary !

What a fantastic view!.. I was actually born at the other end of the country (Isle of Wight).
Unfortunately your statement "slowly decaying through neglect.." is applicable there too, as in many places in the UK these days.

I watched Grand Tours of the Scottish Isles last night. They visited Jura and Gigha. Magnificent views.

Just wondering; did things deteriorate after the closing of the submarine base in Dunoon? Not just Bute but Argyll in general?

Main cause of the decline has been deindustrialisation and depopulation of the region.
Greenock, Paisley and Glasgow used to be thriving. Now they are in decay.

Had a trip in lovely spring weather to Glasgow and then back down the coast to Largs. Great.

Still here - now going for Kidney Dialysis three times a week. This makes travel difficult but I still enjoy the island and what it offers.

Carry on carrying on.
I'd send you some of my cat's renal diet dry food but I'm note sure it would do any good.

Seriously - I am posting partly to let people see that as a retirement destination the Isle of Bute is not so bad ! And housing is available - from housing associations and private landlords. the natives are friendly. Most of them.
