30 problems only British people will understand.

Some are a bit weird, but there's a few I can relate to............

Just did No. 25

Nearly all of them, except I didn't understand the one about the hand-dryer.

Excellent !

The first one was fantastic.

I could relate to nearly all the rest.

Only 5 out of 30, so obviously I'm weirdly assertive for a Brit. But I knew this already. It comes from having had an infuriating father who seemed to think he might be sent before the magistrates for ignoring a 'Don't walk on the grass' sign.

Erm, nope, not too many! Must be having spent half a lifetime in Australia.

I think they missed a few words off - something to do with pressurising the person currently using the dryer maybe?

None of them, but then I am Caledonjan who has spent most of his life in Africa, Arabee and the Balkans.

:lightbulb: that could be it.

That is depressingly like me:ohmy:

No. 4 - so many times

And no.1- I am so bad with names. If in a situation where I can't avoid introducing people I don't do it and hope they'll do it themselves. Or more usually, I run away;)

No. 10 - I have varied my walking route many times

Back in Bristol I used to look out of my window before leaving to go the shop to see if that annoying bloke from over the road and down a bit was outside his house.

On the way back I used to bury my head in the newspaper or whatever I could be reading so as not to see him.

Number 14....In Greece once I was prepared to go a bus stop too far as I didn't want to make a move to get off where I'd like for fear of standing there like an idiot if he drove by. There was nothing to indicate a bus stop although I had previously seen it stop there.

Luckily someone else made the move and I got off across the street from my hotel. :o

Maybe it's something to do with Bristol. When I lived there I used to try and avoid the strange man down the road who used to stop me to talk at length about his collection of broken watches. Unfortunately the layout meant he could easily ambush people innocently walking past:eek:
And of course, being British, I couldn't just make an excuse and leave. I'd be there forever trying to make a getaway:lol:

Back from the shops, I thought of this list but still couldn't resist putting the items on the counter sand saying, "Just these, please."

I thought of this thread yesterday, too... I'd ordered a bunch of dresses from Monsoon online and was returning the ones I didn't want to keep (about 7 dresses).

The system to return them was a shambles - they had to process each dress refund individually and some prices had changed and it was all very complex... the assistants (being British) kept apologising for how long it was taking and I (also being British) kept apologising for causing so much trouble :D

You can get more of these on their facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/soverybritish

I must admit to many of these including hiding from the window cleaner......

OMG.. I think I am one of those people. What is it about us, the one about the hand dryer in the loo, I wait till the person who is using the dryer leaves before I exit the loo and if someone is in the next loo to me I bung a handful of toilet roll down the loo so no one will hear me tinkle.

PS: I have just been through their facebook page posts. Have yet to find one I don't identify with! Here's one of my favs :
Having someone sit next to you on the train, meaning you'll have to eat your crisps at home.

Here's one not on the list, in the supermarket picking a bunch of bananas about to pull one off as I feel it's a little bruised but I see the assistant looking at me so I take the bunch and keep the bruised one:o

Some of them crossed my mind but I rarely act on them, probably leading people to think I am rude but really life is too short to worry about this stuff.

Re number 25, I will politely wait sometimes and sometimes ask to be excused while i reach through. I'm not the worst, while I peruse it is not unusual to have someone reach in front of me without a word of apology to which I sometimes say :demon: "you are welcome" and receive a "sorry" back.

Adding one for the list, feeling like a wuss because I wash my hands after using public toilet while many more macho men just flush and leave.

Just this Sunday in my local supermarket, an older man was choosing his bananas rather meticulously for any one normal and I stood and looked at the onions next to the bananas until he was done...he took forever. I thought to myself I should just say 'excuse me' but couldn't do it. I am normal...a normal Brit!

Can't wait to be amoungst people like me

Haha! I can relate to nearly all of these. I thought I was just odd and shy and unassertive ... apparently it's just because I'm British :)

Of course ... having lived in Texas I'm getting over my assertiveness problem, but I have still done many of these even over here.

Re: 30 problems only British people will understand.

Yes yes yes!! I can relate to nearly ALL of them! After 24 years in Australia there had to be a reason why I still feel like coming home.
Only yesterday I walked past the shop I was supposed to go into, kept walking and pretending everything's cool, I know exactly what I'm doing, etc, pretended I then needed to go into the next shop I came to, then had to spend time looking at things (to be polite), thought I'd better buy something (so as not to appear rude), came out again, made sure I turned the right way when I left the shop (lol), and went back to the original shop I originally intended to go into!! And all because I didn't want to look like I don't know where I'm going.
And today, there was a nice old lady s-l-o-w-l-y putting potatoes into her shopping basket. I really wanted to get to the potatoes as well, but pretended to be looking at the onions in a really interested way, whilst waiting for her to finish. And then when she did finish and I went to fill my own basket with potatoes, she said to me "oh sorry, dear, I didn't realise you were waiting"!! So all was in vain anyway.
And yes, the not remembering people's names - there's some people I've been aquainted with for a couple of years and I still don't know their names - I can hardly ask them again what their name is now can I?

LOL. Just seen this. I can relate to that. Or you let them go soggy in your mouth before you start munching.
