Default Want to work in Malaysia? Don't do MM2H

There's a very irritating banner that comes up on the home page of the MM2H government website currently, which says

quote:
The MM2H Pass is a Social Visit Pass and allows MM2H participant to long-stay in Malaysia. If MM2H participant intends to do business, he/she would need to terminate the MM2H Pass. MM2H participant who is interested to invest in Malaysia can contact the Malaysia Industrial Development Authority at:

MIDA Headquarters
Malaysian Industrial Development Authority (MIDA) Block 4, Plaza Sentral, Jalan Stesen Sentral 5, Kuala Lumpur Sentral,
50470 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Tel: 603-2267 3633
Fax: 603-2274 7970
Website : www.mida.gov.my
Email: [email protected]
quote

So I think we can glean from this that they really don't wish you to work here on this visa. Of course, if your business is outside Malaysia, then no problem.

Can some body explain what they want to say by "Not allowed to do buz" every 1 is allowed to open up a company in malaysia even on short time visit pass...

If you open up a company & hire local people to run : does it count as doing business...

Sunil

Hi Sunil and welcome to the forum

You will need to look at the MM2H gov site and make your own interpretations.

Sure, you can start up a business here and hire staff, and Malaysia will love you for it. But if you are going to start up a business, then why do you need a MM2H retirement visa? You will have a work visa, no?

Hi Sunil,

If you mean that a foreigner can form a company (and run it, living in Malaysia) using a Short Term Social Visit Pass, I think you will find that’s incorrect. The key word being ‘social’.

See the Immigration Department of Malaysia description of what’s allowed here:
Portal Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia - Short Term Social Visit Pass

For other types of Pass, see:
Portal Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia - Pass

For Visas, see:
Portal Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia - Types of Visa

You may also find the information on the following websites helpful:

The types of Malaysia Work Permit for Foreigners - Which one for you?

Good luck!

Yes every1 can form a company...

SSM is company formation authority & they just need passport page copy , nothing to with type of visa.

Hi Sunil,

I think you may be missing the point.

For most foreigners there is little to be gained from starting a company in Malaysia if the foreigner cannot also get the necessary permits to legally work and live in Malaysia himself/herself. Unless that is, the foreigner just wanted the business to be run by local Malaysian staff whilst the foreigner remained in his/her home country.

Here’s some examples of the major problems faced by foreigners forming a company in Malaysia for your reference.

Major Problems Faced by Foreigners Of Malaysia Sdn Bhd Company
